ABOUT THE ROLE

As the Senior Surveyor – Flag State Control, you will be a key contributor to AMSA’s flag state inspection program and administration functions. You will be a trusted advisor providing support to both internal and external stakeholders in regards to AMSA’s role as a flag state issuing body.

You will be a technical expert undertaking assessment work in the issuing of safety and pollution certificates and other documentation for the certification of an Australian flag vessel; providing technical advice at meetings and via written briefs. You will also have the opportunity to represent AMSA at various national industry and government forums.

You will play a key role in the drafting of Marine Notices, Marine Orders, Instructions to Class guidance documents, procedures and other associated instructions and guidelines. The role will also see you monitor and contribute technical advice in the development of a broad range of policies and procedures in relation to Flag State administration.

Reporting to the Principal Marine Surveyor – Flag State Control you will be part of a team of professional, technical experts that are passionate about the role they play in contributing to AMSA’s corporate goals.

ABOUT THE PERSON

To be successful in this position, you will have solid foundations within the Australian Maritime industry, operating at a senior capacity. You will have a sound understanding of ship statutory survey regimes and be technically qualified in marine engineering or equivalent qualifications in electrical, mechanical or structural engineering.

Your knowledge and understanding of the applications of Conventions and domestic legislation and the role of Recognised Organisations and Classification Societies will be key to your success.

You will have strong written and verbal communication skills with experience presenting and communicating information to a variety of audiences. You will be a natural promoter with an ability to build strong working relationships and networks to promote ideas and make an impact.
