About Us
The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal supports Nova Scotia’s 23,000 kilometers of roads and highways and 4,100 bridges. We are an engaged and supportive workplace ensuring safety of our public service; ensuring all return home healthy and safe.

The Marine Services division of TIR maintains and operates seven provincial ferries: Englishtown, Little Narrows, Country Harbor, LaHave River, Tancook Island, and Digby Neck. Our Ferry staff help further connect and expand Nova Scotia’s transportation network while ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our Provincial Ferries. Our ferries operate 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. If you want an exciting and challenging career with a daily view of our beautiful Atlantic waters, then we have the perfect opportunity just for you.

As a Marine Engineer, you will join an engaged and collaborative team. Hours of work include 12 hour shifts and may require the working of various alternating hours per week in order to maintain the ferry schedule.
You will operate main engines of the Ferry; ensuring that all auxiliaries, pumps, ventilating fans, steering motors and furnaces are functioning in a safe and efficient manner.
You will inspect, repair, and maintain the mechanical and electrical equipment on the ferry.
You will assist directing traffic on the Ferry; arranging vehicles and/or cargo on deck, collecting and recording fares (tickets where applicable), and ensuring that the boat is clean at all times.
