Duties

Delivery of the crewing, administration, operational readiness, training, safety, pollution control readiness and response, policy issues and security of the Canadian Forces Auxiliary Vessels at Auxiliary Fleet Nanoose Detachment. Provide essential Auxiliary Fleet operational services and support to Canadian Forces Maritime Experimental and Test Ranges.
Intent of the process

A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used for similar permanent or temporary appointments, at the same or lower levels, with various linguistic requirements and with various security levels.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)
Occupational Certification:
Possession of a current Transport Canada Certificate of Competency as Master, Near Coastal or higher;

OR

Possession of a current Transport Canada Certificate of Competency as a Second Class Engineer or higher;

OR

Possession of a current Transport Canada Certificate of Competency as Chief Mate, Near Coastal and a suitable combination of education and experience in marine management and/or marine operations;

OR

Possession of a current Transport Canada Certificate of Competency as a Third Class Engineer and a suitable combination of education and experience in marine management and/or marine operations;

OR

Command of an Her Majesty’s Canadian Ship (HMCS) over 3995 tons and Transport Canada approved qualifying sea service equal to that of Transport Canada Chief Mate, Near Coastal. *

Applicant will be required to achieve Transport Canada Certificate of Competency as Chief Mate, Near Coastal prior to appointment.

Experience:

Recent experience in marine operations. *
Recent is defined as being within the last two (2) years.


Recent experience in leadership, administration, performance evaluations and supervision of a team of subordinates. **
Recent experience in fleet management, such as the operation of vessels, vessel inspections, and budgetary responsibility. **
Recent experience working with policies and legislation related to marine environment **

Experience:

Experience in Government of Canada marine management and operations as Master of a vessel engaged in Near Coastal voyages.
Experience in ship berthing, towing or research operations.
Experience in operating with the Royal Canadian Navy.
Experience in operating with other government departments and foreign navies.
Experience in provision of marine and/or technical support services to a varied client base.
Experience in financial resource management in accordance with Treasury Board and Department of National Defence policies.
Experience using a personal computer and Microsoft Office applications.


Occupational Certification:

Expenditure Management Certification for Section 32 & 34 of the Financial Administration Act.
Contracting Certification or Contracting Direct with Trade certification.
Labour Relations Management Training.
Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
Marine Advanced First Aid.
