Currently, we are ramping up our efforts for our AJISS program, Canada’s largest in-service support program working in partnership with the Canadian Armed Forces, specifically the Royal Canadian Navy.

The AOPS (Arctic Offshore Patrol Ship) JSS (Joint Support Ship) In Service Support program will allow Thales to leverage its Canadian expertise in project management, systems engineering and integrated logistics support to lead the development of a new Canadian supply chain that will offer comprehensive in-service support for all systems and equipment of these fleets over their operational lifetime, ensuring they are mission-ready, on time, every time, from coast to coast to coast.

To support our development, we are seeking a Ship Maintenance Coordinator to work full time in our new office in Halifax, NS. The Ship Maintenance Coordinator is accountable for overseeing the day to day operations of maintenance execution and is responsible for managing designated ship repair and ship maintenance activities involving Thales subcontractors and the FMF.

Main Responsibilities
Act as the primary point of contact for all stakeholders with respect to the maintenance execution function;
Supervising (planning, organizing, leading and controlling) the Thales personnel and subcontractors to achieve agreed outcomes within the delegated authorities and responsibilities;
Responsible for conducting all required activities prior to the commencement of maintenance execution. This involves subcontractor kick off meetings, authorization of purchase requisitions and issue of purchase orders;
Provide the appropriate direction, coaching, support and delegation to individual team members and the whole team to enable them to achieve the work objectives;
Oversee all maintenance execution activities for designated maintenance periods to ensure material readiness objectives for the platforms are being achieved;
Prepare regular reports as required by the contract;
Organize any deployment activities for relevant team members in accordance with program activities;
Ensure that issues are resolved at the lowest level and are escalated for any issues relating to the maintenance period. Particularly shortcomings in operational availability and/or safety and must be alerted as they happen or are known;
Provide whole ship project management support to the AJISS Halifax Manager and Halifax Team Lead as required to meet the availability standard to meet the Full Mission Capability under the ISS Contract;
Manage the conduct of maintenance and /or Ad-Hoc tasking’s during designated maintenance work periods within agreed scheduled time frames;
Report progress - daily, weekly and at the conclusion of Maintenance activities;
Control investigation and rectification of operational defects (OPDEF) within agreed scheduled time frames;
Report status of Operational Defects (OPDEF);
Manage and co-ordinate technical assistance and /or advice to Ships’ Staff and other RCN personnel;
Assess warranty implications and financial claims;
Review maintenance systems and support documentation for applicability;
Liaise with other ISS functional managers with respect to the provision of ISS services;
Verify and certify financial claims for payments made by subcontractors;
Manage and coordinate the recording of planned and corrective maintenance data in data management systems from initiation to close out;
Manage and coordinate the collation and acceptance of objective quality evidence for planned and corrective maintenance for performance and data management and invoicing;
Attend regular departmental meetings with manager to build and consolidate continuous feedback and improvement mechanisms;
Provide positive and relative non KPI contribution and application towards continuous improvement;
As requested, update Procedures and Templates for AJISS;
Conduct Maintenance activities IAW Thales Procedures;
Prepare and deliver regular Lesson Learnt / Internal Wash-up Meetings to assigned Project Team members;
Provide Project Management Support to the ISS Maintenance Team;
Overall HSE Partner; and
Undertake other project management duties as assigned;
Comply with and ensure compliance of others to all relevant WHS and Environmental legislative requirements, policies, procedures and framework with the intent of preventing or minimizing accidental exposures to self, colleagues, visitors and/or the environment;
Promote Thales’s Health, Safety and Environmental programs by demonstrating WHS Leadership in a professional and supportive manner;
Interact and work with management/employees to promote teamwork, by effectively communicating with all levels of staff via staff meetings, written communications and one-on-one communication.

Essential Skills and Qualifications
Trade or Technicians Engineering qualifications for marine industrial environment;
At least 5 years’ experience in a similar role;
Experienced in the supervision of teams involved in meeting schedule imperatives;
Extensive Project Management experience;
Previous ship related experience;
Experience in working within a defence environment and with active defence force personnel;
Project Management qualifications will be an asset.
