Under the supervision of the Chief Engineer, the position will be responsible for ensuring servicing, mechanical maintenance and effective operation of a dredge during its dredging operations in Canada and internationally.

Responsibilities

Ensure proper functioning of on-board equipment during dredge operations and trips
Perform repairs and maintenance of the engine room and on-board equipment
Take part in maintenance and repair operations during dry docks
Perform specific maintenance routines for each machine or equipment according to procedures and requirements
Monitor the functioning parameters of engines and report any malfunction
Ensure that policies on safety and environmental protection are followed
Perform other related duties, as required

Requirements

Hold a Canadian STCW-95 Third or Fourth Class motor marine engineering mechanic certificate with over 12 months of sea time
Good knowledge of diesel motor mechanics
Have a valid Canadian passport
Knowledge of or experience with Z-Drive powered vessels would be an asset for the position
Good knowledge of hydraulic systems
Have analysis capacities for problem solving and corrective maintenance
Comfortable working on a computer with Microsoft Office
Available and willing to travel
Self-sufficient, organized and showing positive leadership
Enjoy teamwork

Reporting to the Project Director and the Tug Captain, the incumbent will have to perform mechanical operations and maintenance on Z-Drive or conventional tugs. He will be required to work in Baffin Island, Nunavut.

Responsibilities:

Maintain the main engine and auxiliary equipment;

Operate electrical, mechanical and hydraulic control systems as well as replenishment-at-sea equipment;

Operate and maintain refrigeration, ventilation and air conditioning equipment;

Monitor the tasks of the preventive maintenance system;

Ensure the implementation of the safety management system in his department;

Monitor the functioning parameters of the main engine (pressure, temperature, levels) and report any irregularity;

Other related tasks as requested by his supervisor.

Requirements:

Hold a Canadian STCW 3rd class motor marine engineering mechanic certificate;

Hold a valid medical certificate issued by Transport Canada;

Hold a propulsion simulator II training certificate (an asset);

Have 3 to 5 years of experience as Engineer Officer;

Good knowledge of diesel motor mechanics;

Good physical condition;

Available for long trips;

Functional English;

Work experience in Arctic (an asset).

Work schedule:

12 hours/day;

14 days on, followed by 14 days off.

- Hold a valid training certificate in marine advanced first aid;
- Good knowledge of diesel motor mechanics;
- Available and willing to travel outside the port if necessary;
- Have 1-4 years’ experience on a ship as Engineer Officer;
- Be available for days, nights and weekends;
- Self-sufficient and responsible;
- Demonstrate good organizational skills.

CONDITIONS
- 7/7 work schedule (14 days on and 7 days off in stand-by);
- Wage rate established under the collective agreement in force;
- Permanent job.

EXIGENCES

- Détenir un brevet canadien STCW-95 de mécanicien de marine 4e classe moteur (autres classes pourraient être considérées);
- Posséder une bonne connaissance en mécanique diesel;
