Overview

Survival Systems Training Limited (SSTL, www.sstl.com) is a Dartmouth based, world class, long time training provider of Offshore Oil and Gas, Marine, Aviation, and Industrial sectors. At SSTL, our mission is to provide the best possible safety and survival training programs by incorporating realism, knowledge, research, and safety into every aspect of course delivery.

SSTL is currently seeking qualified mariners to deliver/design/assist SSTL's marine training programs. SSTL is seeking full time or part time staff to fulfill its requirements.

Hours and Location

This position has regular hours (730-1630), Monday to Friday, although SSTL deploys its operational staff to client locations from time to time. This position will be principally based at SSTL's training center located at 40 Mount Hope Avenue, in Dartmouth, NS.

Main Duties:

Deliver SSTL training courses (primarily marine), including theory and practical portions
STCW Basic Safety
STCW Proficiency in Survival Craft
STCW Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boats
STCW Advanced Fire Fighting
MED A1, A2, A3
Domestic Vessel Safety
Offshore Survival Craft Leader (offshore lifeboat coxswain)
Oversee course delivery, and manage trainee safety at all times
Understand Transport Canada and STCW requirements and restrictions
Develop and maintain (with respect to the appropriate regulations) training materials and courseware

Qualification Requirements:

Applicant to possess one, or more, of the following Marine Qualifications (note that other Marine Qualifications will be considered if applicant has a relevant background)

Chief Mate, Near Coastal Voyage, or STCW Chief Mate
Master 500 Gross Tonnage, Near Coastal certificate
Fishing Master, Second Class, Limited Water
Third Class Marine Engineer certificate

Other required skills:

Solid English comprehension skills (speaking, reading, and writing)
Comfort with computers and Microsoft Office software
Proven teaching or instructional ability
Mobility and travel capacity (SSTL frequently deploys staff to offsite locations to facilitate client requests)

Preferred Skills/qualifications:

Oil and gas industry experience
Competency assessment/evaluation
Command experience (vessel, platform, installation, etc.)
Fluency in French would be an asset but not a requirement
