Assistant Marine Manager

We have an immediate opening for an Assistant Marine Manager based out of our Nakusp, BC location
to actively lead and drive continuous improvement of our fresh water passenger ferry operations. As a
hands-on versatile leader, you will guide your team to ensure smooth, safe and cost-efficient operations
of the fleet. Reporting directly to the Marine Operations Manager, you will ensure delivery of superior
operating performance and inspire an open innovative learning environment for all crew members.

Key Accountabilities:
• Lead a team of mariners operating a fresh water passenger ferry service
• Ensure all crews work with safety as a priority
• Maintain and create safe working conditions while ensuring and maintaining high productivity
and a cost-efficient operation
• Interface with Federal and Provincial Regulatory agencies
• Work with the Technical Mechanical Manager on proactive vessel maintenance programs
• Train and develop crew in safety drills and marine operations protocol to conform with
government regulations
• Deliver timely employee performance feedback through observation and skill assessment
• Direct, motivate, develop
and performance manage the crews for maximum performance
• Mentor Captains, Engineers and other Mariners for the purposes of assumption of increased
responsibility and succession planning
• Participate in additional company projects as required
• Formal training and practical experience in training others

Qualifications/Skills/Experience:
• Maritime or other marine based experience an asset
• Experience as a leader of a business unit with direct responsibility for staff, ideally in a unionized
environment
• OHS experience an asset
• Valid BC Drivers licence
• Operations experience with at least 5-7 years in a people leading role
• Post -secondary education is required with a Business degree preferred
• Strong computer skills and experience using MS Office
• Strong leadership and customer service skills
• Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
• Professional written and oral communication skills a must

Working Conditions:
• Work is mostly performed onboard inland water vessels and in an office environment
• The worksites are subject to weather impacts and may result in a cold, hot or wet working environment
• Work may be required in confined and dirty spaces
Work Hours:

Monday – Friday 0:8:00 – 16:30 or as required by current work load. This position is part of a continuous
operation. The incumbent will need the flexibility to be “on call” and available after hours. This schedule may
include weekends and/or holidays, as directed by the Marine Operations Manager. Overtime may be required
without notice.

Compensation:

This position is non-union and completes work in a unionized environment. You will receive a competitive
salary, full benefits including contributions to the pension plan and a company vehicle.
