Job Title: Technical Superintendent, Marine – Prince Rupert

Reports to: Fleet Manager

A challenging opportunity exists in Prince Rupert for a Technical Superintendent who will be responsible for hands-on management of technical aspects of this marine fleet of tugs. This position will report to the Fleet Manager and support him in maintaining a first-class, always ready & customer responsive fleet. Day-to-day reporting will be to the Manager, Northern B.C.

Responsibilities will include:

Ensuring that proper Planned Maintenance is maintained in the company software for all equipment under the Company’s management;
Ensuring work orders and purchase orders are drafted, properly communicated and executed;
Directing the work of mechanical, hydraulic, electronic and electrical maintenance, repair and installations on ASD tugs;
Preparing the annual vessel maintenance & repair budget and managing expenditures against budget;
Confirming the efficient and effective ordering of spare and replacement parts;
Ensuring the critical spares store is evaluated and managed;
Communicating effectively with subordinates, clients, contractors, suppliers etc.;
Organizing and overseeing the maintenance and repair of vessels in line with class requirements (Lloyds, ABS etc.) and with Transport Canada;
Preparing docking schedules and budgets and requesting tenders from shipyards;
Managing dry-docking projects at yards in the region or elsewhere;
Overseeing maintenance staff in Prince Rupert and Kitimat;
Managing the relationships and communications on technical and purchasing issues between SAAM SMIT Canada and other SAAM SMIT Towage Group entities.

Competencies:

Previous experience as a Technical Superintendent
A solid understanding of Marine safety principles specific to this role and strong personal conviction, safety leadership and exemplary safety behavior;
A 2nd Class Marine Engineer or individual with solid technical experience who has had effective and harmonious supervision experience of at least 3 years;
Individual must have thorough understanding and experience working with Transport Canada and the safety provisions of the Canada Labour Code.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
