The Ministry of Transportation requires a certified Marine Engineer for the position at the Glenora Ferry Service.

What can I expect to do in this role?
Under the supervision of the Ferry Captain, and technical guidance of the Chief Marine Engineer, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining all vessel engines, pumps and related equipment on two end-loading ferries by: inspecting, testing, oiling and greasing equipment; replacing worn parts; recording maintenance activities and malfunctions; maintaining vessels plumbing system; assisting in engine rebuilding and overhauls; assisting in repairing and maintaining terminal and facility equipment.

How do I qualify?
Mandatory
You must have the following licensing and certifications:
• Certificate of Competency as a Restricted Marine Engineer (for specified vessels)
• Marine Emergency Duties Certificate to the level required by Transport Canada
• Valid Continued Proficiency Endorsement Certificate

Technical Knowledge
• You have knowledge of Seamanship principles and practices
• You can ensure the mechanical operation of the vessel in a safe and lawful manner
• You have knowledge of safe and efficient operating and maintenance procedures for shipboard and shore equipment
• You have knowledge of the signs of wear or malfunction in machinery and maintenance/repair procedures to deal with these problems

Analytical and Problem Solving Skills
• You can detect problems or potential problems in equipment
• You can respond appropriately to emergency situations
• You have the mechanical ability to make adjustments, part replacements or minor repairs
• You can respond appropriately in emergency situations and assess priorities of action

Other Essential Skills
• You are organized and can plan ahead in regards to supply needs
• You can be courteous with passengers regarding complaints or concerns
