Conditions of Employment:

Must be legally entitled to work in Canada

Must be capable of performing physical requirements of the position, including work in confined spaces as well as perform work over/around water
Must have a valid class 5 driver's licence with the ability to upgrade to a class 3 licence within 1 year
Must be able to travel and stay overnight in remote work sites for extended periods of time on a regular basis
Must be able to work irregular and extended hours including weekends, statutory holidays and flexible hours to provide services and meet operational demands
Must be able to travel within the province by ground, water, and/or air transportation

Qualifications:

Essential:

Post secondary education in project management, business administration or mechanical engineering technology. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered
Knowledge of the Marine Industry as it relates to operation, maintenance, and renovation of 200 tonne and under passenger vessels
Experience working with related acts, Federal and Provincial legislation, regulations and standards that pertain to Marine operations including (but not limited to) the Canada Shipping Act (2001), Navigable Waters Protection Act, Environmental Acts and Regulations, and Classification Society Rules
Supervisory experience of geographically dispersed work units (i.e. recruitment, training and development, conflict resolution, performance management, etc.)
Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
Written communication skills with ability to prepare correspondence and technical reports for a wide ranging audience
Ability to work independently
Decision making skills


Desired:

Knowledge of the application of the principles of naval architecture and marine engineering through the operation of 200 tonne and under passenger vessels
Experience working in remote northern communities

Duties:
As a member of the Northern Airports and Marine Operations team, reporting to the Manager of Marine Operations (MMO) this position provides supervision and direction to the Branch with respect to the operations, inspection, repair and modification of all passenger/vehicle ferries, shore facilities, terminals and related equipment within the section to ensure continued operations with minimal service interruptions. Plans, organizes, coordinates and supervises the Ferry Captains and Lead Cable Ferry Operators and ensures they are instructed and trained appropriately in the performance of their duties. Assists the MMO with overall program delivery.
