INSTRUCTOR (MARINE ENGINEERING SYSTEMS DESIGN)

DUTIES
The successful applicants will be responsible for teaching a variety of courses in ship and marine mechanical design to students enrolled in the three year diploma of technology programs in Marine Engineering Systems Design and Naval Architecture. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, ongoing curriculum development for continuous program improvement; collaboration and support for the new Industrial Research Chair in Marine Passenger Transportation Technology

QUALIFICATIONS
The applicant should have extensive marine industry experience (5-7 years), with a proven track record in design. The applicant should possess a Graduate Degree in either Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Ocean Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering; an equivalent combination of experience and training may be considered. Experience in all aspects of marine design: ship mechanical systems, ship structure, resistance and propulsion, hull form development, stability, electrical systems, offshore structures, project management, and shipyard practice is desired. Experience in both 2D and 3D design software is required. The successful applicant should be familiar with emerging technologies and the current challenges facing the marine industry; emission reductions, alternate fuel technologies, condition monitoring, pollution control, etc. Prior teaching experience would be an asset. The ideal candidate will have a combination of practical and theoretical knowledge in the design of ships and other floating structures.

SALARY: Commensurate with Marine Institute’s Instructors’ Collective Agreement (NAPE Local 7405)
