Marine Engineer

Company Profile:

Arctic Pearl is a family owned seafood processing, fishing, and cold storage company operating out of Port Alberni and Richmond, BC. We are looking for a detail-oriented person who not only possesses the skills, knowledge and experience required, but who also has a positive attitude and the ability to work well with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities:

The engineer is responsible for maintenance, operation, and repair of all vessel electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and freezing systems onboard the F/V Viking Enterprise

Repair and Maintenance:

To maintain the ship in a state of readiness at all times
Oversee and maintain all systems including engineering, electrical, hydraulic, and freezing.
Follow system specified recommended maintenance programs.
Participate in dockside repairs and maintenance including yearly shipyard work.
Keep vessel maintenance records and inventory.
Maintain up to date logs for all equipment.
Report repair and maintenance issues to Owner
Make requisition for required parts, supplies, etc., as needed and forward to office staff
Conduct periodic inspections of antipollution systems, i.e. oily water separators, air filters, etc.
Prepare the vessel for all BV/ Transport Canada inspections
Be familiar with the ISM Code and its requirements
Be familiar with all duties under the Emergency Response Activities

Requirements:

Minimum Fourth Class Transport Canada Motor Certificate
Seafarers Medical Exam
Commercial Fishing License ($60 purchased from DFO)
An applicant must also have strong knowledge of support systems, such as oily water separators, lube oil separators, fuel centrifuges, shaft generators, variable pitch propeller systems, air compressors, pumps, hydraulics, water makers, plumbing, (both water and fuel), refrigeration, heating and air conditioning
Must be able to read, analyze and interpret systems manuals, technical bulletins, inspection reports and government regulations.
Must be able to communicate effectively with Captain, crew and Owner.
Work Schedule At sea: The Chief Engineer and second can determine if they work a 12 on 12 off, or a 6 on 6 off rotation.

Just got some feedback about the Arctic Pearl, there has been some issues with payment, so be aware if your intention is to seek work with them.
