Senior Marine Engineer

Position Summary

Under limited supervision, plans, designs, develops, complex drawings, ensuring requirements are defined and met according to specifications. Employs existing guidelines and instructions, guidance from higher-level engineers, experience, and independent judgment to plan and accomplish task objectives. Assignments may require the development of improvements to current techniques and procedures.

Responsibilities/Duties

Engineer on Canadian and International Naval or Coast Guard or Commercial vessel ship contract, functional and detail designs. Must be able to further develop customer ship construction specifications and drawing package into system functional and detail design products including shafting and auxiliary/fluid system design, component sizing, equipment/pump selection, pipe sizing and pressure drops.
Will be responsible for marine engineering analysis and design for new ship designs.
Defines and organizes a proposed project into the tasks and activities needed to solve the problems being addressed. Schedules work to meet completion dates and technical specifications.
Prepares and reviews input to technical reports, status reports, letters, technical memoranda, contract reports and formal briefings.


Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related scientific discipline plus minimum 5 years' experience as a marine engineer. Degree(s) must be in engineering, computer science, mathematics or a related discipline.

In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 10 years of applicable work experience. Work experience may be adjusted based on education, or highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by market survey data.

Required Skills:

Should have experience in office design. Fluid systems and piping design subject matter expert or similar background.
Experience with the use of SOLAS/MARPOL and IMO regulations, and industrial standards such as ASTM, ASME, DIN. Well versed with IACS Member Rules set (DNV, GL, Lloyds, ABS, BV etc)
Knowledge of Marine Equipment Machinery Arrangements
