Job duties:

Assist the Engineer Officer on duty in performing various routine maintenance and repair work on the vessel’s engines, machinery and ancillary equipment, as well as assist in emergency repairs
Verify the equipment, machinery and engine indicators to ensure that the lubricant pressure and flow rate meet with the established standards
Record data and report anomalies to the Engineer Officer on duty
Lubricate moving parts of the engines, machines and auxiliary equipment
Clean machine parts and keep the engine room proper
Safely organize and categorize equipment
Maintain records

Perform all other related tasks as required and as directed by the supervisor

Required skills:

The selected candidate will have to prove that he or she meets all the following conditions:

Hold a high school diploma or a vocational diploma (an asset)
Hold a STCW-BS Basic Safety Training Certificate or equivalent
Hold a Crisis Management and Human Behaviour STCW Training Certificate or equivalent
Hold a Crowd Management and Safety STCW Training Certificate or equivalent
Hold a Security Awareness STCW Training Certificate or equivalent
Hold an ERA - Engine Room Assistant and ERR - Engine Room Rating Training Certificate or equivalent
Hold a marine medical certificate
Hold a basic First Aid Training Certificate or equivalent
Have a minimum of two (2) years of experience in similar positions
Have a minimum of two (2) years of experience on board ships
Have the appropriate mechanical skills for the job
Have an optimal awareness regarding health and safety at work and optimal awareness for environmental protection
Be a good team player
Posses good organizational and planning skills
Be able to follow orders and ask for clarification when in doubt
Intermediate level of oral communication and comprehension in French required
Beginner level of written communication and comprehension in French required

Conditions of employment:

This job offer is for a seasonal position from May 6th, 2020, to November 1st, 2020.

The work schedule is from 40 to 56 hours per week at the rate of two (2) consecutive weeks of work then one (1) week off or at the rate of one (1) month of work then two (2) weeks off.

The captain of the ship has authority to allocate any reasonable task or function that may be required for the efficient and safe operation of the vessel.

Working language:

French and English

Knowledge of French is required

Salary:

Hourly rate of $23.72 according to the collective agreement.

Work location:

Work may be performed on board any ship operated by CTMA Traversier Ltée, its subsidiaries or its affiliated corporations. Candidates must be able to work on board a ship for long hours.

The position will be mainly based at 435 Avila-Arseneau Road, Cap-aux-Meules, QC, G4T 1J3.
