Second Engineer
Comeau Sea Foods Limited
Saulnierville, NS
Full-time, Permanent

The Second Engineer will be expected to:

Participate in a safe work culture, comply with all Company Occupational Health and Safety Policies and promote safety awareness at all times
Assist in pre-trip vessel readiness as directed
Ensure defective equipment that affects the safety of the crew, the safety or seaworthiness of the vessel is promptly reported to the Captain
Adhere to and provide recommendations for a strict maintenance routine
Conduct preventative maintenance for their respective watch
Collaborate with other departments to make adjustments to systems when required in order to optimize production and minimize downtime during their respective watch
Assist the Chief in maintenance and repairs where required and/or directed by the Chief.
As required, meet with the Chief, Captain and any other personnel to review work lists and landing plans
Ensure all regulatory and company-required certificates related to their qualifications are kept up to date.
Attend any training required by the Company
Attend any meetings on land for review of operations, maintenance planning or otherwise requested by the Company
Will cooperate with all other departments as required

The successful candidate is required to have the following:

Up to date Marine Engineer 4th Class Motor Ship and all related courses and certifications including:
Successful Seafarer’s Medical
Marine ADVANCED First Aid
WHIMIS/GHS
Marine Emergency Duties (MED) STCW
Commercial Fishing License
Basic Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and other Windows based applications
The ability to respond quickly to complex and ever changing environments and needs
Strong communication skills to work well as part of a small team and cooperatively with others
Detail oriented with excellent organization skills
Resourceful and creative problem solving skills
Ability to work under pressure and within time constraints
Physical capacity to perform requirements of position
Three years of previous experience preferred
Must be committed and willing to complete 2nd Class Certification within first 2 (two) years of employ

mechanical engineering: 3 years (Preferred)
