Salary: $95,000 to 105,000

The Superintendent, Engineering will manage the day to day engineering and technical operations in accordance with company policies and procedures as well as government regulations and customer expectations. These responsibilities include personal and operational safety and environmental protection.

Duties:

Providing direct support to vessels;
Overseeing maintenance and repairs of vessels;
Preparing, monitoring and controlling budget for assigned vessels;
Maintaining the safe and efficient operation of all engineering related functions;
Attends vessel for any major breakdown;
Conducts vessel visits and inspections, ensuring vessels are maintained and complying with all relevant standards;
Liaising with external authorities including flag, class and port state regulatory bodies;
Monitoring vessel efficiency and environmental performance;
Monitoring Planned Maintenance System (PMS) for execution of work;
Monitoring and developing layup work specifications using ShipNet Layup Planner;
Reviewing all SOS forms submitted by their assigned vessels and ensuring that all SOS events are reported promptly;
Conducting monthly reviews of assigned vessels’ Planned Maintenance to ensure that established KPIs are being maintained;
Preparing and supervising dry-docking and related surveys and inspections;
Arranging and managing the work of shore side contractors;
Prepare reports for senior management as needed;
Plan for changes to schedules and policies;
Providing input to Fleet Plan;
Liaising with the Sales & Traffic department to identify customer service requirements;
Working with the Fleet Personnel department for the purposes of recruiting, training and scheduling Chief Engineers and engineering officers and ensures assignments meet regulatory and company standards in terms of certification and experience;
Coordinating efforts with both the Logistics and Purchasing departments to ensure the required supplies/equipment is delivered to the ship in the most efficient way possible;
Preparing performance documents and conducting in-person performance reviews for all Chief Engineers;
Reviewing all received performance reviews for engineering officers and providing input to the Vice President, Engineering for any individual training or development requirements;
Reviewing the Shipboard Safety Management Committee meeting minutes;
Participating as a member of Marine Emergency Response / Hot Line after hours support

Qualifications:

Chief Engineer Certificate
Must meet one of the following:

o Minimum 8 years experience as Chief Engineer on product tankers and/or self-unloaders; or
o Minimum of 5 years experience as Chief Engineer on product tankers and/or self unloaders coupled with 3 years of additional management experience in marine related positions such as Superintendent, Operations Manager, Auditor, Marine Surveyor or Safety Manager/Trainer.

Working knowledge and solid understanding of IMS, ISM, MLC requirements/regulations
Dry Docking experience at a supervisory level is required.
Working experience with Planned Maintenance System
A high degree of safety awareness and experience ensuring safety of crews and vessels
Proven ability to analyze and interpret marine vessel specific technical information and drawings
Strong project management skills including organization, planning and prioritization demonstrated through successful dry dockings and marine related major repairs, projects and equipment installations
Ability and experience carrying out incident and mechanical failure/breakdown investigations and analysis
Experience leading and motivating shipboard crew including experience with performance management and discipline procedures
Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint
Excellent communication skills in English language (verbal and written)
Proven ability to work independently, taking the initiative with minimal supervision and a high degree of self motivation
Proven ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders and external parties such as customers, contractors and suppliers.
Proven strong attention to detail and accuracy as it relates to equipment troubleshooting, repairs and installations.
Proven ability to remain calm under pressure particularly as it relates to marine emergencies and major equipment breakdowns
Experience identifying, trouble shooting and resolving complicated marine related technical problems in a timely manner using your creative, enquiring and logical mind.
Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required
