Clearwater Seafoods' Fleet Operations in Lunenburg, NS is seeking a Chief Engineer in the offshore factory freezer fleet.

Purpose of Position:

The primary role of the Chief Engineer is to manage a reliable centered maintenance program for the vessel. They will be responsible to the Vessel Captain to ensure that these duties are performed effectively and cost-efficiently.
Responsibilities

Will ensure proper maintenance of the vessel and equipment, and any deficiencies that affect the safety of the crew, or safety or seaworthiness of the vessel, are promptly reported to the Captain;
Will ensure that all employees or others at or near the workplace follow the safety policies and safe work procedures established for the workplace.
Will collaborate with other vessel officers to maximize efficiency in the complete operation of the vessel and all equipment, in particular the Captain and Vessel Manager.
They will carry out a reliable centered maintenance program to minimize production delays and downtime.
Work with the Captain, and the Vessel Manager collectively on refit planning and planned maintenance lay-overs.
Will keep accurate records of inspections within the onboard vessel management system and, repairs on ship's equipment done by ship's engineers in accordance with Transport Canada regulations, regulatory class and the Owners' requirements.
Will manage the vessel turn-arounds and maintenance layovers, including management of contractors, scheduling of work and work crews, and inspections with regulatory bodies, with the Captain and Vessel Manager.
Will provide the 2nd and 3rd Engineers with clear direction on required duties while on watch, and follow up to ensure completion as directed.
Will provide training to the 2nd and 3rd Engineers and Factory Mechanics to improve their knowledge and skills, and advance their career as opportunity permits.
Will maintain the Engineering Department inventory, including preparing the Department order.
Will be accurate and complete with information recorded in all logbooks and reports.
Shall carry out vessel rounds during the mid-day and midnight watch changes, with the Captain, to check for safety and mechanical mal-functions and, together, report any deficiencies to the Vessel Manager.
Must ensure job skills, training and required certificates are kept up-to-date and, foster a culture of crew development, training and succession planning.
Will attend and actively participate in the onboard Officer's Meeting each trip, shore-side meetings and training as required.

Qualifications

Key Behavioral Competencies:

Must have the ability to work in the dynamic operating environment of an offshore harvesting and processing vessel;
Must be willing to work in a fast-paced environment as part of a team.
Ability to travel locally and internationally as required.
Excellent communication skills are required, both verbally and written in English.
Resourceful and creative in problem solving.
Ability to work rotations of 35 days in a trip on-trip off rotation.

Qualifications Required:

At minimum a Class II Motor Transport Canada Certificate of Competency.
Valid Marine Medical Certificate of Fitness.
Valid Marine First Aid Certificate, WHMIS and Commercial Fishing License.

Considered Assets:

Experience in an offshore harvesting and processing operation.
Experience with seafood processing equipment.
Training or experience with hydraulic factory processing equipment and refrigeration plants.
