About Lower Lakes

Lower Lakes Towing operates a fleet of six self-unloading bulk carriers and three conventional bulk carriers in Canada. Combined with our U.S. sister companies, we have a combined fleet of 14 vessels. These vessels transport a diverse array of dry bulk commodities including limestone, coal, iron ore, salt, grain and other commodities for more than 50 long-standing customers in the construction, electric utility, integrated steel and food industries.

Position:

We have an immediate opening for a Vessel Manager position to provide direct managerial overview for a group of vessels. The successful candidate will manage the day to day engineering and technical operations in accordance with Company policies and procedures as well as government regulations and customer expectations

Major Accountabilities

All below mentioned responsibilities are expected to be performed with support and assistance of other Vessel Managers.

Supervise and direct day to day management of a fleet of Great Lakes self-unloading vessels
Lead and oversee the maintenance and repair of vessels
Provide technical expertise and guidance to vessel crew
Develop and maintain fleet standards for efficient vessel operations
Ensure continuous operation, eliminate downtime due to breakdowns
Prepare, monitor and control vessel budgets
Ensure vessel efficiency, operational safety and environmental protection
Undertake vessel visits and inspection, ensure vessels are maintained to comply with any and all relevant standards
Liaise with external authorities Flag, Class and Port State regulatory bodies
Monitor Planned Maintenance System (PMS) for execution of work
Prepare specifications and evaluate tenders
Arrange and manage company vendors and contractors
Liaise with the Crewing Manager to identify vessel crewing and training requirements
Conduct appraisals of Chief Engineers

Requirements

Minimum of 3 years of Vessel Manager experience.
Chief Engineer Licence
Working knowledge of bulk carriers (required)
Experience working with self-unloading systems (preferred)
Strong organizational skills, good judgement, reliability and attention to detail competencies.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and proficiency in using software applications
Effective at working in teams with an internal customer service focus
Travel to vessels in the US and Canada is required, extensive travel during winter work periods for field work.
Must be able to travel to the US without restrictions.
