Chief Engineer
Stena Drilling (Canada) Corp in St. John's, NL

Stena Drilling is delighted to be commencing operations offshore Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada for an anticipated six (6) month drilling campaign onboard the Stena Forth drill-ship.

There are currently temporary opportunities for 2 Chief Engineers, working on a 42/42 on/off rotation.

Work Location: Onboard the Stena Forth Drill-ship, offshore NL. Please note there is a possibility that successful candidates will be required to join the drill-ship overseas at an international location prior to mobilizing to NL.

Wage: $88.88 CAD per hour

Job Duties:

Overall responsibility for the maintenance system on the rig.
Must be fully committed to working safely and be responsible for the safe working practices of the crew.
Participate with technical crew in Risk Assessments.
Assist the Master/OIM in identifying jobs which may require a Risk Assessment.
Ensure the safe and cost-effective operation of mechanical and electrical equipment in compliance with statutory regulations and the company's procedures.
Ensure the general safety training of personnel within their area of work is carried out.
Supervise repairs, inspections, maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment.
Monitor continuous machinery surveys according to Classification Societies.
Ensure watch keeping duties are carried out in a competent manner.
Follow-up requirements from Classification Society or Certifying Authority where applicable and on certain occasions from flag state inspection and third-party audits.
Ensure that all machinery temporarily installed on the rig for use by contractors is acceptable, correctly certified where necessary and installed in a manner to satisfy the Company and the Classification / Certifying authorities.
Responsible for inspections and witnessing and signing off all tests on third party equipment. The responsibility for inspection may be delegated to another Competent Person.
Plan, service and maintain equipment and in-service inspections according to planned maintenance system, and Classification Society.
Co-ordinate activities with the Master/OIM and communicate information relating to operational or maintenance problems involving other departments.
Communicate with the Engineering Manager and Superintendents in the shore base.
Assist in the planning of refits, major repairs, modifications and surveys.
Ensure rigorous compliance with OFFSHORE Personnel Appraisal Procedure.
Ensuring that all modifications are approved according to the appropriate level of authorisation.
Ensuring that all modification, breakdown and unscheduled maintenance observed by the maintenance personnel have been entered into the TAG Maintenance System.
Responsible for ensuring that all hoses are identified, installed, inspected and maintained as per manufactures' recommendations. Also responsible for ensuring all personnel concerned with the manufacture, fitting and maintenance of hoses are competent.
Corresponding with the Maintenance Superintendent in the Aberdeen office in all aspects of the PM system.
Perform the duties of "Issuing Authority" for all operations in the Mechanical Department requiring Permit to Work.
Issue and distribution of Work Orders on a weekly or monthly basis or delegate this responsibility to the various Department Heads.
Ensuring that all maintenance work carried out by the Mechanical Department has been entered in by the person carrying out the maintenance work.
Maintaining an adequate stock of spare parts.
Budgetary control within their area of responsibility.
To participate in the Stena Drilling Competence Assurance Scheme.
Ensure Marine Engineering Qualification kept valid and licence held for the flag of the vessel being worked on. Additionally, it is to be ensured that other members of the Engineering team comply with this as relevant.
Allocate tasks to Senior Mechanic and provide adequate supervision in order to ensure that all such tasks are carried out in a safe and efficient manner.
Responsible and accountable for the safety of the personnel working under their direction and shall be expected to conduct operations at all times in full compliance with company procedures (SMS).
Identify and address any violations of procedures concerning personnel under their direction.
Continuous or repeated violations of policies or procedures should be highlighted and brought to the attention of the HoD/Master/OIM.
Comply with the Management of Change Principle.
Actively participate in accident/incident investigations when required.
Any other duties as required by the Master/OIM.

Skills, Education, and Experience:

Current 1st Class Motor Certificate of Competence - Chief Engineer
Previous experience as Chief Engineer on drillship
20 years relative experience
Must have experience supervising repairs
