Reporting to the Executive Director, Shipbuilding, you are responsible for leading and supporting BC Ferries’ On-Site Acceptance Teams (OSAT), and will be accountable for the management of engineering requirements for designing, constructing, commissioning and trials for new fleet vessels to ensure compliance with Corporate standards, policies, and applicable statutes and regulations. As a candidate, you have demonstrated success as a marine engineer who has successfully integrated their technical knowledge beyond the engine room into the shipyard as a leader of multi-disciplinary projects.

As a leader, you are a positive team player who achieves the corporate goal of safe and efficient building of new vessels while providing dynamic mentorship, project management excellence and a collegial work environment.

As the Engineering Superintendent VRP, you have responsibilities in 4 key areas, including but not limited to:

Leadership:

· Overall supervision and mentoring of OSAT members’ activities to ensure the teams safely, efficiency and effectively meet all shipbuilding requirements for VRP projects.

· Providing leadership in the adoption of best practice in the management of modern shipbuilding activity.

· Participating in the development of Shipbuilding project specifications (i.e., Statement of Requirements (SOR) and Technical Statement of Requirements (TSOR)) to ensure BC Ferries’ requirements are correctly identified and included in contract documents.

· Ensuring vessels are designed and built to meet all of the contractual technical requirements as defined in the SOR, TSOR and other specifications.

Vendor Relations:

· Frequently review that the Shipyard is following their Quality Management System. Report on construction progress, monitor quality of work and Shipyard following their Standards.

· Be proactive in organising safety meetings and regular safety patrols with the Shipyard.

Administration:

Maintain close communication ties with the Operational Engineering Superintendents on all aspects of the ship building program.
Create and maintain a list of required documentation for vessel operation and maintenance for the Implementation Team, (e.g. VSM, SMS & SEA).

Your background qualifications round out your experience and includes:

Over 10 years' progressively responsible experience in an engineering role on passenger ferries or similar vessels.
First class certificate as a Marine Engineer, or comparable / equivalent Marine Engineering Qualifications.

This position will require extensive travel and a commitment to long periods spent working in remote shipyards, including overseas, as dictated by contract awards. The requirement for travel to shipyards would commence immediately after engagement.
