THIRD ENGINEER, LARGE VESSEL

Working at BC Ferries as a member of our engineering team, means you will work with us as we plan for our goal to have a more resilient service by increasing the capacity and interoperability of vessels in our fleet. We are more than a marine transportation company: We connect communities and customers to the people and places important in their lives.
As a third engineer, you maintain, monitor and repair machinery and equipment on the vessel.
You will conduct watch keeping duties including monitoring pressure levels, temperature levels, and the condition of all equipment; maintaining fuel, lube oil, air and water levels; taking samples; handling chemicals; cleaning related filters; and checking all plumbing and electrical systems throughout the vessel. In addition, performing routine maintenance on all deck, engine room, catering machinery, and equipment; troubleshooting and repairing mechanical breakdowns; and assisting with the overhaul of major components is also included in your responsibilities.
In this capacity, you are an integral part of the engineering team as you assist the senior engineers with additional required duties and mentor junior engineers with their continued development.
The successful applicant is a proven, engaged engineer who brings the technical and interpersonal skills required for safe and efficient management and operation of the ship’s machinery and equipment. You will be committed to the Company’s vision and values including safety, exceeding customer expectations and performance efficiency.
Interested employees holding a Transport Canada Fourth Class Motor certification or higher may be considered for this opportunity based on meeting the qualifications, experience and suitability requirements determined by the Company.
