The Marine Asset Technical Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating and performing marine asset maintenance and repair activities within fleet operations. This position also ensures the technical and operational integrity of the fleet operations assets.

Accountabilities and responsibilities include:

Marine Asset Maintenance


Coordinates and plans emergent fleet operations asset maintenance and repair activities. Performs repair inspections and determines repair solutions, including scope, method, budget and timing of repair.
Schedules or performs maintenance, as appropriate, based on the problem's initial diagnosis to determine the priority and most appropriate solution considering the effects on boat crew safety and the possibility of further equipment damage. Conducts assessment of the structural and mechanical seaworthiness of the vessels.
Verifies the execution of the planned and predictive fleet maintenance program to ensure the fleet's operational continuity. Identify the root cause of equipment breakdown, suggest measures to prevent a recurrence.
In cooperation with the Manager and department administrative staff, coordinates fleet maintenance budgets and monitors asset maintenance expenditures.
Identifies and schedules vendors, suppliers and contractors for maintenance and repairs. Communicates with contractors and monitors the repair work.
As assigned, coordinates projects from initial business case scoping & chartering through to project close-out. Ensures record-keeping and reporting using tools such as Helm Connect and the Source (Share Point).
Ensures work is performed while following all guidelines regarding safety and environmental protection. Confirms all work execution is compliant with VFPA policies, objectives, strategies and best practices.
Provides overview of the vessel maintenance programs to the boat crew.

The ideal candidate is a self-motivated, mature team player capable of taking direction but acting on their initiative when required. Possess strong problem-solving skills, analytical abilities and interpersonal skills. Good organizational skills and the ability to effectively multi-task and manage competing priorities are essential. Must have an ability to establish a good working relationship with co-workers and work close to others for extended periods. Must have excellent written and verbal communications skills and demonstrate sound judgement. Must be in good physical condition to be able to carry out the essential duties of this role.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

The successful candidate will possess a high school graduate with certification as a 4th class marine engineer or mechanical tradesperson. Must have 4 years’ experience in the marine industry's maintenance field working on structural, mechanical, hydraulic, electronic and electrical maintenance of marine equipment to troubleshoot, guide and implement repairs. Must have experience ensuring safe and reliable equipment and vessel operations to be in compliance with all applicable class and Transport Canada regulations. Previous experience in project management or coordinating vessel maintenance and repairs involving multiple vessels are strong assets. Must have excellent computer skills, including familiarity using computerized maintenance management systems and be a quick learner of emerging maritime technologies. Must hold a valid Class 5 B.C. driver's licence.


WORKING CONDITIONS

Normal office conditions with regular exposure to a coastal tidal environment. Physical requirements include occasional heavy lifting and/or carrying of objects up to 40 pounds, kneeling, crouching and prone positions, reaching and hard pulls, agility and use of muscles. Require to commute to locations that are not on transit routes.


MARINE TRANSPORTATION SECURITY CLEARANCE

The incumbent must obtain and maintain a valid Marine Transportation Security Clearance as this position is required to access restricted areas/information as defined by the Marine Transportation Security Regulations.
