The Canadian Institute of Marine Engineering is internationally recognized for its conferences, technical symposiums and workshops, which are hosted by CIMarE’s branches. Several are co-hosted by related professional societies.

The Institute holds the annual Mari-Tech Conference and Exhibition with the goal of enhancing collaboration, sharing ideas, and improving the quality of research and development within the marine industry.

This year’s conference will return to St. John’s Newfoundland. The conference theme:

Harsh Ocean Environments: Marine Engineering Challenges and Solutions.

In a changing world, this conference will bring together global leaders in the field. This gathering of interdisciplinary experts enables discussion amongst marine engineers and policy makers, improving cooperation and inspiring the next generation of engineers and architects alike, and is a key opportunity to foster international partnerships and alliances.

The conference features key-note addresses and track sessions on hot topics in the industry.

Mari-Tech Conference and Exhibition 2016's call for speakers is now open!

Do you have something you want to share about the marine industry that will benefit the Canadian marine engineering community? Do you have solutions to offer to the challenges of harsh weather environments? If so, we'd like to hear your idea for a 30 minute presentation.

Mari-Tech is Canada's premier marine engineering conference and, as the conference is being held in St. John's, Newfoundland this year, it is fitting that the theme is Harsh Ocean Environments: Marine Engineering Challenges and Solutions. Topics related to this theme will be given first consideration.

Mari-Tech's success is based on securing quality content that matters to the marine industry today. Therefore, the primary objective of the conference planning committee is to ensure the excellence of the speakers and presentations matches the expectations of the attendees.

Call for Volunteers:

The call for volunteers is now open!
Volunteer at one of the finest educational and networking opportunities within the marine industry. The conference theme: Harsh Ocean Environments: Marine Engineering Challenges and Solutions.
The 2016 Mari-Tech Conference and Exhibition will be an ideal setting to gain and share information through presentations that offer the latest information on international marine engineering and best practices, including such topics as technology, marine safety, government ship building programs and engineering.

On behalf of the Canadian Institute of Marine Engineering's 2016 Planning Committee, we would like to invite you to submit your candidacy for a Volunteer Position for our 2016 Conference & Exhibition.The Mari-Tech 2016 conference will take place at the St. John's Convention Centre, 100 New Gower St, St. John's, Newfoundland on May 5th & 6th, 2016.

Mari-Tech is currently seeking 20 volunteers to play an integral part of this year's conference. Should you be interested in submitting your name for consideration, please e-mail Shannon McLellan at [email protected] by March 24th, 2016.

We will be seeking to fill roles such as:
• Registration Attendants
• Door Monitors
• Expo Hall Directional Volunteers
• Entrance Greeters
• Room Monitors
• Time Keepers
• Production Assistants
• Unassigned Floaters
• Event Photographer
Volunteer Expectations:
• A minimum time commitment of 4 hours a day is required in order to obtain certain volunteer benefits.
• Each volunteer will abide by the Mari-Tech 2016 Dress Code.
• Volunteers are to sign a Confidentiality Agreement.
• Volunteers are to sign a Volunteer Contract and uphold their volunteer commitment to the best of their ability.
• Participate in mandatory volunteer orientation prior to the start of the conference.
• Past volunteer experience an asset.
Benefits of volunteering:
• Meet potential employers and future colleagues.
• Become familiar with leaders and specialists in different sectors of the marine technology industry.
• See industry trends, issues, programs and vendors in action.
• Experience and learn new skills through these opportunities.
• Complimentary conference pass.

Please provide us with a brief explanation as to why you would be interested in and qualified for a volunteer position at the 2016 Mari-Tech Conference (max 300 words) along with a copy of your résumé by no later than March 24th, 2016.

Mari-Tech Conference & Exhibition 2016 Announces Industry Guest Speaker, Jeffrey J. Smith

Our latest addition to the conference is industry guest speaker Jeffrey J. Smith, former chair of CIMarE who will provide insight into the recent undercutting of the National Shipbuilding Procurement Strategy and what this means for the ship building in Canada.

The federal government has confirmed that some of the smaller ships to be supplied to the Canadian Forces in the future won't necessarily have to be built in Canada. Mr. Smith will kick off the last day of the conference by addressing this serious challenge to the National Shipbuilding Procurement Strategy.


Regular rate registration ends April 29.

Anchors Aweigh! Mari-Tech 2016 Conference & Exhibition welcomes Keynote Speaker, Richard Martyn, producer of the successful series Mighty Ships. Now in production on its ninth season, Mighty Ships is seen in more than 100 countries.
