Got a recent submission, looking for help identifying the diesel engine pictured below, anyone know what it might be?

I am looking at a 1938-1940 cast block 250kw, 6 cylinder
900 rpm AC generator. It has a UG-8 woodward governor,
it has 2 sets of Bosch 3 cylinder fuel pumps, individual cylinder heads. The nameplate has long been gone!
Any help in identifying. Buda? Cooper Bessmer? It was on a
large American Warship that had 2 each
Many Thanks

If the engine is a 2 stroke (a bit hard to tell from the pictures) it could be a Fairbanks Morse. Besides the Opposed Piston Engine I know Fairbanks also made an engine with cylinder heads
The Coast Guard Ship Alexander Henry had 2 for Main Engines.

yes, it is difficult to identify, just by crankcase doors. I'm thinking that the photos were taken by someone slipping onboard a laid up ship. If they had identified the ship by name it would have been relatively easier.
Not really versed in American 1940 warship engines/ auxiliaries, bit olders even for me.
Yes, I think it has been overhauled with a paintbrush from its appearance.
Need more photos.
Seems tight up against the deck head, one of JJs machines maybe type jobby?
Not a sub?
Remembering The Good Old days, when Chiefs stood watches and all Torque settings were F.T.
Looking at it again cross members and panels over heads don't seem heavy duty enough to be one of JJ's Mark 8's plus they seem to be knockout panels to gain overhead access to engines.
Don't think therefore it's a sub.
Lot of engine compared to now a days to pump out just 250kw.

I've been thinking of North American engines that currently use block type fuel pumps and could have had the capacity to make an engine of that size. The only manufacturer that comes to mind could possibly have been Caterpillar, even though the engine is painted US Navy grey there may be the familiar "Cat" Yellow paint hidden underneath.
