You are an experienced professional engineer, and you are responsible to provide your expertise in rotating machinery and shafting, tribology, and materials for BC Ferries’ vessels, including new construction, refits and improvements. You will provide theoretical, diagnostic, and forensic support to ensure appropriate asset management of the ships’ systems, and you will ensure the company is in compliance with all relevant regulations. You will manage internal design development and direct contracted work, and you will be accountable for scope and quality inspections onboard vessels at shipyards and the inspection of materials and equipment on suppliers’ premises. You will direct staff and contractors in the preparation of reports that detail vessel condition, making recommendations on refurbishment, and fleet renewal and vessel class strategies.

Your exceptional judgement and problem-solving skills allow you to efficiently recognize, assess and isolate complex issues, resulting in timely and appropriate resolutions. You are an excellent communicator and effective leader, with the ability to influence and build positive relationships with all levels of an organization by adjusting style and methods to suit the specific audience. You bring a strong track record of recommending new ideas and processes that improve work safety and quality, and you are dedicated to achieving a high level of service.

You have a bachelor's degree in mechanical or marine engineering, and you are a licensed professional engineer or an Engineer-In-Training (EIT) with a pending license. You bring a minimum of five years of experience working with rotating machinery, both theoretical and applied, preferably with some marine project references. Project Management certification and experience with LNG/NG engines or electrically driven machinery are assets.
