You are an experienced Professional Engineer, and you are responsible for providing technical support and expertise with a particular focus on vessel performance, trials, and regulatory compliance for new vessel construction, ship modifications, refits, repairs, and capital projects. You will manage technical research and prepare technical reports. You will direct staff and contractors in the preparation of reports that detail vessel condition, making recommendations on refurbishment, fleet renewal and vessel class strategies. You are responsible for configuration management on the vessels, scope and quality inspections onboard vessels at shipyards, and the inspection of materials and equipment on suppliers’ premises. You will also manage relationships with regulatory agencies including Transport Canada, and Classification societies with regard to structural survey requirements and stability documents; researching, advising, and guiding the implementation of new regulations and standards and, where necessary, Transport Canada Marine Technical Review Board decisions.

Your exceptional judgement and problem-solving skills allow you to efficiently recognize, assess and isolate complex issues, resulting in timely and appropriate resolutions. You are an excellent communicator and effective leader, with the ability to influence and build positive relationships with all levels of an organization by adjusting style and methods to suit the specific audience. You have the ability to create, introduce, and/or recommend new ideas of processes into the workplace to improve the safety and quality of work thus increasing performance and productivity.

You have a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Naval Architecture or Mechanical (Naval Architecture Option), and you are a Licensed Professional Engineer or an EIT with a pending license. You bring a minimum of five years’ experience working as a consulting naval architect, both theoretical and applied, preferably with some supervisory experience of project/design teams. Experience with model testing/CFD/full scale sea trails will be an asset.
