Got it in one.
It is the busbar for a 4400 KVa transformer. The rep suspected mechanical strain on the edge of the low voltage coil damaging the insulation and leading to a short.
Apparently the flash was spectacular.

Yeah I should say so, I have seen some pretty serious sparks flying around me, and that was just when I was changing a 120 v light bulb. ehehehe
