Ocean Choice is presently accepting applications for a Chief Engineer for its new Arctic Class state-of-the-art groundfish vessel which boasts Green Class status. The technology and energy efficiencies on this vessel contribute to making it the most modern and efficient groundfish vessel in the Canadian fleet.

Reporting to the Captain, the Chief Engineer is responsible for monitoring all onboard equipment and systems together with implementing the vessel preventative maintenance program. The Chief Engineer is responsible for the safe operation, maintenance and repairs of all machinery and electrical equipment onboard. Supervision of all engine room operations and ensuring that company policies and standards are communicated to, understood and compiled with by all engine room employees. Working closely with the fleet operations team, the successful candidate would be responsible for maintaining and improving the ships systems and assets and promoting the safe and environmentally responsible management of Ocean Choice’s vessel.

Applicants with the following qualifications will be considered:

Possess a minimum valid 2nd Class Motor Ticket.
Hold a valid Marine Emergency Duties and a Transport Canada Seafarer’s Marine Medical Certificate.
Factory freezer/trawler experience is an asset.
Knowledge of Ammonia refrigeration systems.
Knowledge of trawl winch systems, specific knowledge of Ibercisa and regenerative power would be and asset.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel as well as other computer and data entry software.
Proficiency with Preventative Maintenance software.
Capable of identifying failures, developing worklists, and carrying out preventative maintenance schedules.
Execute any and all scheduled and corrective maintenance on ships assets.
Keep records as required by ships standards, logs, safety documents and other records as required or assigned.
Confident in organizing, leading and monitoring engine room staff and contractors to build effective and efficient turn around schedules.
Safely and efficiently operate machinery systems, and apply safety policies.
Comprehend, operate and trouble-shoot the ships electrical assets.
Perform metal fabrication and machine work when required as in use of lathe, welding equipment and other similar equipment.
Responsible for maintaining proper inventory levels and ordering critical spares.
Provide the trade skills to ensure safe and reliable operation of the vessel.
Manage the vessel turn-arounds and maintenance layovers, including management of contracts, scheduling of work and work crews, and inspections with regulatory bodies, with the Captain and Operations Manager.
Provide 2nd and 3rd Engineers with clear direction on required duties while on watch, and follow up to ensure completion as directed.
Ability to work in a dynamic operating environment of an offshore harvesting and processing vessel.
Has an ability to understand, and troubleshoot process control and automation systems in a complex processing environment.
An understanding of Tier III emissions engines, with common rail fuel injection and SCR’s an asset.
Maintains a working knowledge of safety policies and regulations to ensure duties of self and others are performed in a safe manner.
Promote a safe, courteous atmosphere and strive to make improvements in a professional manner.
Must ensure job skills, training and certificates are kept up-to-date and encourage a culture of crew development and training.
Work trip on/trip off rotation, as well as working in port with members of the opposite rotation.
