Re: CCGS Edward Cornwallis to be renamed
Cornwallis: Another famous leader sanitized from the pages of history by equally ruthless counter culture proponents. Such acts change not the past which we should not forget. The man was given a job by the ruling monarch of the day to keep his charges secure. But this does not release him from blame for his barbarism against the original inhabitants. Perhaps the King is the true culprit, and Cornwallis just his battle axe. Cornwallis served under the arrogant King George II, who of course was so beloved by the southern colonists that they formed their own nation. Perhaps one of his greatest mistakes was to fight against George Washington rather than side with him. But old King George must'a somehow had him by the curlies. Will the names of the kings and queens since his time be struck from all monuments ? To his credit, he did make an effort to end child labor in India. But the Scots too have a bone to pick with Cornwallis after the battle of Culloden and his raids at Lochaber. Just have to conclude that old Eddy C. was good, bad, and ugly all in one. Maybe we should rename all things that were named after imperfect men of history, and choose only good outstanding names. Hmmm... we would soon run out of names. Seems that evil villains are the dominators of history. If society survives a couple hundred more years, wonder what modern names will be scratched from ship bows and monument plaques.

Re: CCGS Edward Cornwallis to be renamed
The ship will be renamed in a totally fitting manner. When it is announced, people will have to actually read their history to understand it.
