State of Alaska Technology Study for Reducing Metals and Ammonia in Cruise Ship Wastewater
The State of Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation's Cruise Ship Program is currently investigating existing and innovative new control technologies to reduce or remove metals and ammonia from the treated waste water effluent from large cruise vessels.

The goal of the technology would be to reduce the level of the pollutants of concern - ammonia, copper, nickel, and zinc – to the long term effluent limits found in Table 1 of the Large Commercial Passenger Vessel Wastewater Discharge General Permit. The technologies could be add-on controls, process controls integrated in the existing waste water treatment installations, or a combination of both. Researchers, engineers, manufacturers, and wastewater treatment suppliers who have promising methods or technologies are invited to submit proposals for inclusion in a feasibility study. The State of Alaska Cruise Ship Program will sponsor a workshop that is open to members of the public, researchers, vendors, federal agencies, and the cruise ship industry to discuss these technologies.
