We are currently accepting resumes for Chief Engineers for full-time employment.

Northumberland Ferries Limited operates between Wood Islands, Prince Edward Island and Caribou, Nova Scotia. This position is a full time Excluded position with a day-for-day rotational work schedule (1 week on/1 week off).

Chief Engineers provide leadership and direction to the engineering personnel and provide training to recruits within the organization. They are knowledgeable and experienced in vessel operations, environmental protection, pollution regulations and safety management systems and responsibilities include:

• Vessel planned maintenance system.
• Reporting, tracking, resolving deficiencies/repairs.
• vessel inventory of spare parts.
• Ensuring the vessel and equipment is operated in compliance with the company policies and procedures and Classification Society.
• Enforcement of safe work procedures, policies and the wearing of personal protective equipment.
• Leading and supervising the engineering department in adherence to company safety management system.
• Scheduling and supervise all engine room crew while adhering to collective agreements.
• Management of engineering department crew schedules and pay.

Certification:

• 1st or 2nd Class Motor Certificate.
• Valid Seafarers Medical Certificate and all other relevant certificates required to maintain CoC.
Qualifications:
• Proven leadership/supervisory skills, including demonstrated success with leading, motivating, mentoring, and growing a team.
• Ability to work in confined spaces.
• Working knowledge of critical operations and SMS documentation.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Proven track record of safe operations.
• Strong verbal and written communications skills.
• Experience with passenger services would be an asset.
• Canadian citizen or permanent residence status for positions in Canada.

Asset Qualifications:
• Marine STCW 6.1 and 6.2 Courses, including valid MED refresher.
• Passenger Safety Management.
• Marine Advanced First Aid Certificate.
