Excessive Erosion on liner surface_ Wartsila 18V46

Post by mdjahirul »

In wartsila 18V46 engine we observed excessive erosion on liner surface. Honing mark almost vanished. Photo attached for reference. Is there anyone who experience this thing before?

Hello mdjahirul. It looks more like corrosion. Need more information: How many hours on the liner? What is the condition of the piston/rings? What was the condition of the unit last time it was pulled? How do you hone the liners? Do you take regular PMI measurements? Are there any previous issues of water leaks? Did any water show up in the LO tests? Do you operate on low load often?
