Picton Terminals by Doornekamp provides logistics solutions and diverse port services which provide better, more efficient shipping throughout the St. Lawrence Seaway & Great Lakes region. Picton Terminals operates (2) tug boats assisting in its services and is actively seeking a Chief Engineer to join its team.

About this Opportunity:

The Chief Engineer is directly responsible to the Captain and to the owners for the proper management of the engineering department. The chief engineer is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all the machinery on board the vessel. He or she supervises the engine room staff and ensures that the vessel complies with all environmental regulations. The chief engineer also develops the maintenance schedule for the vessel and its machinery.

Responsibilities, but not limited to:

Overseeing of all engineering department personnel.
The safe, economical and effective operations of all machinery and equipment on the tug and barge.
Maintenance and completion of the Oil Record Book part II.
Overseeing all fuel, oil, lubricants etc. to and from the vessel.
The prevention of oil pollution from the vessel.
Keeping proper classification and Transport Canada records and maintenance of all machinery and equipment logs.
Familiarizing himself/herself with company policies and procedures and to ensure all employees reporting to them are familiar with these policies and procedures and have access to the appropriate manuals and documents.
Ensuring all engineers under him/her understand their respective duties and are appropriately appraised of operating and maintaining the engines and auxiliary equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
Ensuring each engineer is capable of maneuvering the main engine manually in case of automatic control failure.
Laying out the schedule of work to be performed by personnel of their department and ensure that all machinery, electrical equipment, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment is maintained on a regular cycle and that the continuous survey requirements of both T.C. and Class are always up to date.
The ordering of bunkers and lubricants and scheduling the receipt of these products and by consulting with the master, minimizing any delay to the vessel.
Ensuring that all operating and maintenance manuals for machinery and auxiliary equipment, all diagrams and drawing are kept in good order and properly catalogued. This information is to be made accessible to the engineer on watch. He/she must ensure that it is returned in good order once the purpose has been served.
The Chief Engineer shall ensure all void spaces in the engine room are sounded regularly and recorded in the sounding log.
2nd Engineer duties and responsibilities.
Complies with company and department specific policies.
Abides by all health and safety programs and regulations.
Reports any observed or potential hazards immediately to their supervisor.
Other duties assigned by the Master or Manager.

Qualifications/Experience:

Minimum 3rd Class Motor Certificate (2nd Class, preferred)
Minimum 5 years experience of sea going experience as either Chief or 2nd Engineer
Valid Transport Canada Marine Medical
Valid MEDs
Preferred tug experience previously
Preferred work on CAT Machinery previously
Ability to operate Microsoft Office products and familiarity PM systems
Strong leadership skills
