The Opportunity

It is an exciting time to be part of BC Ferries’ project delivery team as we are geared up for the next phase of new hybrid electric Island Class vessels. As a member of this dynamic team, the Island Class Program Manager will oversee, direct and control all of the interrelated activities and project elements to ensure coherent delivery of the total package of work involved with building the new vessels and having them successfully integrated into BC Ferries’ operations. You will be accountable for the successful implementation of the Island Class Program full scope of work, including such elements as shipbuilding, infrastructure upgrades, and electrification.

The Role

Reporting to the Executive Director, Shipbuilding, you add value and are energized by key areas of oversight such as:

Managing a program of complex marine projects from conception through design and construction
Leading project and technical teams consisted of internal and external team members
Facilitating thorough design reviews, value engineering, and other workshops with required stakeholders to ensure all program objectives are achieved in a safe, efficient and effective way
Leading the development, creation and presentation of business cases, steering committee updates, board and commissioner updates, various status reports, and other project governance documentation
Ensuring a high degree of professionalism throughout all activities, consistent with corporate standards and processes
Providing technical assistance across the organization
Facilitating capital planning with various internal departments and stakeholders

What you bring to the team

You have post-secondary education in marine technical related fields or a combination of qualifications and work-related experience. You bring 10+ years of experience in project or program management and direct experience in leading projects over $50 million. You have 10+ years of marine industry experience in fields of engineering, design, ship repair, shipbuilding or construction; specifically in managing shipbuilding, ship repair, or marine construction projects, site planning and development, managing multi-disciplinary engineering teams, cost estimating, forecasting, and reporting.

Additional information

The target salary range: $121,800 to $167,420 per annum. The starting salary is determined based on the successful candidate’s knowledge, experience and internal equity. Starting salary may exceed the target range on exceptional basis.
