Packing material for water cooled prop shafts
Packing material for water cooled prop shafts
I have recently had to repack shafts on a tug with water cooled gland packings. We used some older packing which i believed to be a tallow covered hemp fiber? It was a white fiber tallow coated packing anyway. I tried to reorder the same stuff but was told by ROBCO all tallow coated packing is now black flax. I have had issues with flax packings recently. Does anyone know a company that still manufactures the white fiber tallow packing or what that fibre was? Thanks in advance.

We have had good luck using Kohinoor packing on our older ships.

You might check out this link

I'm not sure exactly what you are looking for but if you search tallow on this page there is a listing for tallow and cotton yarn packing. Maybe its what you are looking for.

Unless you are in China, where they have a cottage industry making masks from bra cups.

Hmm, so what we're talking about here is guys walking around with a lacy pink cup hung upside down on their nose, straps hooked around their ears (and I guess strapped behind their head for extra security), with a spare cup bobbing around their cheek - I expect this would be accompanied by a $#!^ eating grin.
