MaK Heads
Anyone else having trouble sourcing 6M282 heads? I think I might have just bought one of the last ones on the East Coast. I'm being quoted 3-4 month deliveries on new ones-maybe more.
And word is no more complete heads. MaK will only be supplying bare heads.

We are being warned of very long deliveries of all Engine parts, have a load of 6M25's, ( about 24), to the point MAK have asked if we would like to pre order a crankshaft, in case one gets fecked.
Also having problems with large purifier parts, fuel booster units and the like.
Two reasons we are told, the huge amount of new building ongoing, and as the price of fuel goes up, ship owners are converting MDO only ships to HFO.
regards

They blow another crankshaft on the ship, I'm retiring. Once was enough for me.
Have you ever sourced titanium Alfa Laval cooler plates deliveries and costs? You will get them about the same time as the 2nd coming of JC.
All titanuium is being bought up by China. (Though I hear there is a museum somewhere in Europe completely sheathed in the stuff.)

That's the place! For the life of me I couldn't remember where it was, just that it was (dare I say ) ugly. Here is a Canada they did a show on Frontiers of Construction about it being built and how the USSR was dumping titanium on the world market to bring currency into the country when the museum was being built.

Separator Parts
While not a fan of after market parts for separators SOTECO did offer quality parts for AlfaLaval and Westfalia I don't know if they are still in business. Here is a link for one of their agents.

I was just sent an email that says 5 weeks delivery on a firm order for MaK heads. The local company suggests adding another 3 weeks.
I checked up on the crankshaft issues and it is about the same length of time for delivery. Thanks for the heads up on that one, ArkSeaJumper. When I did some checking we didn't have a spare at all.

Re: MaK Heads
Hey guys,
I am about to go on my first shipping run and found this thread to be a bit troubling. Is this kind of thing still an issue? It seems to be quite a pain as far as slowing down the maintenance process quite a bit. I wasn't really looking forward to having hurdles to jump as soon as I came aboard. I am already responsible for checking moisture levels on the vessel with my moisture detector.
