Funny, BC Ferries has over 65 elevators and escalators on board their ships and in the terminals. They even have a manager that looks after the service and repair of all of them but also new upgrades and new construction..........

that may be so but I doubt if anyone has installed elevators or even escalators in the 3 deck enginerooms!

well yeah, that is pretty small. Big ships have engines bigger than 3 stories. For example the Sulzer 9RND105 has tie rods 77 feet long, they secure the entablature to the sole plate. Above the entablature, of course, are the heads, and below the sole plate, the sump.......and it's a 3=day job to check them all! That's what it took us, anyway, 1 day to slack off all the crankshaft bolts, one day to check and retighten tie rods and the third to retighten the crankshaft bolts. Not easy to find 3 down days on an operational cargo ship. You could put 9 Civics in that crankcase and STILL turn the engine!
