Job Description

JOB TITLE: Project Engineer Subsea- Upgrade & Repair

DEPARTMENT: Major Capital Projects – Upgrade and Repair
SALARY RANGE: $1,500 - $2,000 / per day depending on experience level
LOCATION:St. John's, NL
TYPE OF RIG: Semisubmersible
ROTATION: 2-3 months office work in St. John’s, 3 month non-rotation shipyard
POSITION LENGTH / TERM OF CONTRACT: 6 months
CONTRACT LENGTH: 6 months
NUMBER OF POSITIONS AVAILABLE: 1

JOB SUMMARY: Responsible to plan and build BOP, drilling well control equipment and related subsea systems work packs or part work packs for all assigned shipyard projects. Provide guidance and support as requested to each project team in planning, developing scope and budgeting, related to this discipline. Assemble BOP components for Subsea BOP stack.

PREREQUISITES / QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience with GE and NOV BOP components is required
• Industry Subsea Technical Training is required
• 8-10 years experience with offshore drilling contractor or related subsea OEM as a subsea engineer and experience related to shipyard SPS or BOP assembly with Class certification
• Demonstrate expertise in the designated discipline with management and planning capability
• Comprehensive experience in planning, inspection, and assembly of BOP’s and maintenance of well control equipment and widespread installation and commissioning experience for new and refurbished BOP’s and related well control equipment including BOP hydraulics controls, software control, marine risers, riser-tensioning systems, motion compensation systems and BOP/production tree control systems. Also familiar Project in drilling industry and oilfield equipment, work experience with drilling rig and intimate familiarity with applicable codes and regulations ( API, class…) related to the discipline and planning.
• Valid medical examination and vaccination certificates
• Ability to obtain a Canadian work permit
• Able to prioritize and manager daily situations related to projects. Must be self-motivated and possess superior skills to coordinate project activities, identify and solve unusual problems associated with the assigned project and safety.
• Has to have the ability to ensure that all aspects of a problem are understood and effectively managed within the recommended solution.
• Must be able to perform with a sense of urgency, and highest ethical standards without sacrificing accuracy and professional engineering practices.
• Acts independently to reach sound technical decisions concerning structural integrity and details of rigs
• Evaluates and recommends for manager’s approval all actions which have significant financial impact or operational consequences

Duties:
• Provide oversight support guidance and coaching to the Project Engineers Subsea in the planning group
• Plan, conduct survey, collect information to develop scopes of work, budget and schedule related to BOP, and well control equipment and subsea systems for shipyard projects. Develop equipment specifications, list of parts required to upgrade or repair the equipment and systems. Check fleet spare availability.
• Maintain dialog and interface with BOP and related Subsea systems technical community including Engineering, Field Support, technical committees, OEM, Class etc.
• Develop and maintain good working relations with vendors, OEM and workshop. Plan and monitor equipment repair in the appropriate workshop, coordinate, track progress for repair and equipment delivery and ensure that work and equipment are delivered and tested in accordance with the design criteria, class rules, and governmental regulations, Company policies, customer expectation and standards.
• Monitor fleet spares availability as required for the project. Ensure appropriate documentation and certification package is delivered
• Prepare tender and issue RFQ to vendors to produce new equipment and spare parts in accordance with Company policies. Liaise with Supply chain dept
• Attend and actively participate and facilitate as requested by the Planning Manager
• Ensure project activities are entered into RMS
• Prepare work scopes and work packs in accordance with the Stage Gate process deliverables and timelines
• Follow up on assigned actions within set time lines
• Actively participate in Planning Group meetings
• Develop and maintain a strong working relationship with Division operation teams relevant to the assigned projects
• Work closely as a team with the project execution group during project handover and provide follow up support and advice as required.
• Ensure correct paperwork/documentation is in place for the task to be undertaken and completed at end of task
