The April Branch Meeting will take place Thursday April 21 at 7PM in the lower lounge of the Naden Naval Officers’ Wardroom near the dockyard entrance.

The presenter will be Matthias Teichrieb from Vard Marine. Matthias will be presenting on a recently designed LNG hybrid ferries which are currently under construction in Turkey for Seaspan. The electrical propulsion will be powered by dual-fuel engines capable of running on diesel and liquefied natural gas (LNG) integrated with the Corvus Electrical Storage System as a spinning reserve and power source for responsive harbor maneuvering. The vessels will operate a drop trailer-only route between Vancouver and Vancouver Island.

Vard Marine is a consulting naval architecture and marine engineering company with Canadian operations located in Vancouver and Ottawa. Vard Marine is headquartered in Norway and has 10,000 employees worldwide. The majority owner is the Italian company Fincantieri. For more see http://vardmarine.com/

Members often arrive early to share a beverage with colleagues in the upper lounge. Guests and spouses are always welcome.

an excellent and insightful presentation. On of my main takeaways, is the rapid pace of technology coming on ships in Canada, versus the skill set being trained to operate it, or regulate it.
