OCTOBER MEETING – An Annual General Meeting will take place at 7PM Thursday October 20 in the lower lounge of the Naden Naval Officers’ Wardroom near the dockyard entrance, at 1586 Esquimalt Road. Reports will be given by the Executive Committee relating to finance, membership, upcoming presentations, the Christmas Social, MARI-TECH 2018 Victoria, the Stand By newsletter, etc.
PLEASE NOTE - For those arriving before 7PM there will be a complimentary beverage in the upper lounge [if the downstairs bar is not open].
CHRISTMAS SOCIAL & DINNER PARTY – This year’s Christmas Social & Dinner Party for members and guests will take place Thursday evening December 22 starting at 5:30 at the Royal Victoria Yacht Club - 3475 Ripon Road off Beach Drive at the north end of the Uplands. There will be a full sit down Christmas buffet dinner featuring turkey, salmon and all the trimmings compliments of the Vancouver Island Branch with a no host bar. Please mark December 22 on your calendars and RSVP email@example.com as soon as possible that you will attend and the number of your guests. For this event to work we need a minimum of 30 attendees and a definite number will be needed a week before the dinner.
The Royal Victoria Yacht Club is a very pleasant nautically themed venue routinely festively decorated for Christmas and the food is always good.
As has been our custom, non-perisable donations will be collected for the Mustard Seed Food Bank.
MARINE PHOTO CONTEST – Please send your entries to firstname.lastname@example.org for the 2016 Marine Photo Contest which will be presented at the Christmas Party. Photos must feature at least a vessel of any type.
MARI-TECH 2018 – Each branch across the country is responsible for hosting Mari-Tech on a rotational basis in partnership with the National Council. The Vancouver Island Branch last hosted in 2011 so in just over a year and half Mari-Tech 2018 will take place in Victoria. For all Mari-Techs since the last one in Victoria a conference facilitation company has been hired to manage all the behind the scenes duties such as sponsorship, exhibitions, advertising, venue arrangements etc. There does however need to be branch conference committee to establish a theme, title, corresponding presentations and agenda. Branch Secretary Sam Johnson has agreed to chair this committee and is now seeking other members to join him on the committee. If you are interested, please contact Sam at email@example.com
