Marine Recycling Corporation (MRC)

MRC is the world's first ISO 14001 Certified ship recycling company. With over 50 years of experience MRC specializes in marine salvage and wreck removal, complete end-of-life marine vessel decommissioning and recycling, vessel conversions afloat and in dry dock, vessel re-powering, lake and ocean towing and towing preparation, marine and industrial demolition, emergency response, sectional dismantling, marine/shore construction and shore protection.

Job Description

A great opportunity exists for an experienced OPERATIONS MANAGER to lead and support a team and drive operational excellence: ensuring and improving performance, productivity, efficiency and profitability through planning and high standards of execution. The overall responsibility is to plan, direct and coordinate MRC’s vessel decommissioning and recycling yard in Sydney, Nova Scotia. Specific activities include but are not limited to:

Ensuring all safety, security and housekeeping requirements are adhered to
Oversee all aspects of daily business operations – opening, closing, scheduling, supervision, hiring, administration, conducting operations and developing and maintaining the work flow and administrative processes
Manage direct reports (Operations Assistant Manager, Health Safety Environmental Coordinator, Office Manager) and a team of skilled workers
Analyzing and producing cost savings during course of daily production

Strong process skills
Excellent interpersonal, service skills and ability to develop effective working relationships
Ability to effectively communicate at all levels of MRC
Strong commitment to excellence, accuracy and attention to detail
Exceptional time-management skills
Ability to work under pressure
Excellent computer skills, particularly Word and Excel
Demonstrated flexibility in adapting to a wide variety of tasks and functions
Strong multi-tasking and prioritizations skills with the ability to adapt to change
Confidence and ability to liaise with external stakeholders
Posses an owner-operator mentality
Ability to take action on well thought out, logical solutions to drive success
Ability to work outdoors
Ability to lift 20 kg

The ideal candidate is self-motivated and desires the opportunity to help build MRC. The person should be a natural learner and problem solver, who can see a challenge, decide a solution and act to get things done. MRC places high emphasis on embracing a team-player management style and to transfer the same mindset to subordinates.

Qualifications and Experience
3-10 years direct experience in operations with proven supervisory and management skills (Marine, Manufacturing, Construction)
Working knowledge of Environmental and Health and Safety legislation, best practices and some familiarity with ISO 140001:2015
College Diploma or University Degree in related field
Drivers Licence and own vehicle
Valid Passport
Birth Certificate
Criminal Record Check (dated within last 6 months)
