Would any one know if there is an expiry date on Part A of the Second Class motor exam.
I wrote my Applied Mechanics and Heat over 6 years ago and would like to get back into it.

You should call TC and check it out. I am pretty sure it doesn't but TC rules are changing fast it seems.

Last I heard, all part A's had an expiry of five years after writing. Sorry for you, if this works out to be true. Obviously the best person to talk to is, like JK said, and TC Inspector.

Theory examinations are valid for life, but EK exams are good for 5 years, unless a Certificate of Competency is issued, when they become valid for life. (Marine Personnel Regulations 113) http://laws.justice.gc.ca/en/SOR-2007-115/

The CoC, of course, must be revalidated every 5 years.

I think that this is the appropriate place for this comment. Should you be contemplating 3rd Class Applied Mathematics and Applied Mechanics, may I suggest that you have a go at the 2nd Class Applied Mechanics? The cost is $27:50, same as each of the other two, and the standard of mathematics required is not a great quantum leap above that required for 3rd Class. A little more effort will get you a pass in 2nd Class Applied Mechanics and will exempt you from Applied Mathematics and Applied Mechanics at 3rd Class Level. Theory examination passes are valid for life.

You will not find that little gem in any TC publication, but TC, believe it or not, figgers that if you can pass 2nd Class, you must know enough to pass 3rd. Yes Victoria, there really is common sense in the Ivory Towers! (On the engine side, anyway)
