Even if its just to have someone to shout at, it's sometimes an advantage to send off a snotty e-mail to head office, explaning to them the delays, and problems with the local suppliers. We have in the past sailed without the lifeboat, (freefall), with the use of extra liferafts. (two 20 man throw o...

Sorry to sound silly, but do you mean location, as in best balance, power etc?

Or
Do you mean alignment of the main engine to the propeller shaft.

I worked for a company a little while back that had a dress code for dinner, no white shirt and eppy’s no dinner. The ship was a shit heap. The curtains in my forward facing cabin where tattered ribbons, and every night I was asked to turn my cabin lights off, because it was interfering with navigat...

'Used but good' may have gotten you out of trouble on some small ocasions, but how many time have you reached into the box to pull out a new part to do a job (which invaribly you have already stripped) only to find a used and fucked part. Class requirments for parts are not what they used to ...

We have had a lot of different people approach us.

Natural gas, a 20 foot box with 200bar compressed NG in it. Cant see us being aloud to do that.

Sails, on a gantry system that can roll up the deck out of the way

And my favorite, a big kite.

Balance

A little story for you. A new dredger was being built with two little CAT engines, 1500kw, gearbox to shaft at the aft of each engine and a large alternator coupled to the fwd end. The engine is on resilient / rubber mountings. All parts were aligned, and signed of by all interested parties. The eng...

This only my opinion Mechanical engineering has (IMHO) no relevance to Marine engineering. A professional engineer with experience is not eligible without the correct certs. What you have to do to get your certificates, depends on where and how much experience you have and where you are applying. Yo...
