Is it coincidence that the ones who don't see a point to these posts are either retired or close to retirement? Already had kids and family(maybe), already had a life.
That's being taken away from me, thanks.

Re: Your Rights & Federal Vax Mandate
Hi, Please don't squash this discussion. My career is being taken away from me and I'm very distraught. Engineers are supposed to be intelligent people who have better than average understanding of science and numbers. But instead here it has seemed to be old boys club old school attitude. Very dish...

Has anyone taken this course yet? Or know someone who has? I'm thinking of applying for it, although the next intake isn't until Jan. 2022 apparently.

PerpetualQuickFixes: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asian_Canadians Engineers immigrating here doesn't make the problem worse, sorry to dampen your doom and gloom. We want more engineers, Canadian engineers, that's the whole point...whether they immigrate here or are born here, what is the difference...

Re: Transport Canada issues
I have been treated like a piece of garbage at the TC office in Toronto (!!) several times. I will not go there again, and would reccommend others to avoid the place. The inspector there is condescending and very unhelpful... and I swear on my fathers grave that I was nothing but polite the entire t...

Re: TC 4th for Third Engineer McKeil Marine Limited
Can I ask why? They seem to pay higher than all the bulk carriers, at least until 2nd class/first class (which are getting rarer and rarer these days), have a relief system, and pay for travel. Is it because it's a more hands on job? I don't work for them, just curious, and looking for my next move ...

Thanks JJ. This is good news IMO.
I wonder if the cadet program still covers us for those exams up to 2nd class? Or are we covered for the exams except for the new ones added?

Re: CoC as per STCW 2010 Manila Convention
Just wanted to echo what someone else said...just because you memorize the answers to a few math & electro questions does not mean you are a better engineer than others. No one cares if you "went the hard way". Experience still is king, why do people forget this? No one is going to hir...

Re: There's that navy humidity reasoning again
I worked on an old B&W Alpha from the 60s earlier this year which had a broken fitting on it...double male, one end whitworth, one end bsp..that was fun to find a replacement. No lathe on that old ship either. I had to replace a bunch of piping, and yup, it was a surprise which was BSP and NPT. ...

Re: CoC as per STCW 2010 Manila Convention
That is good news indeed! Now all the doomsayers can stop, right? Those of us still working towards higher class certificates don't have to be constantly told how worthless our goals/aspirations are? Fantastic!! Looking forward to the new SSB whenever it arrives. Will keep sailing in the mean time...
