Engine Duty
GenSets are frequently seen to have extended service intervals due to their steady state loading. Large two strokes are generally seen to have longer service intervals in propulsion duty than equivalent four strokes. In the end it's all up to supplying clean fuels and lubes of the proper quality. Se...

CHN&O
CHN&O are generally not run as part of a standard fuel quality assessment If you want the total spectrum you would also add ASTM D-240 gross heat of combustion and calculate the net heat based on Hydrogen content or perhaps an FCA (Fuel Combustions Analysis) To identify all components of a fuel ...

Electrical Regs
I would check IEEE, the particular class society for the vessel or other flag state regulations for the specdifics. Soundslike a workboat or fishing vessel if all is in the ER so in many cases these has seperate rules/regulations.

Walter McCarthy Sinking
Seems the laker Walter McCarthy holed while approaching it's layup berth in Duluth and settled on the bottom in about 20 feet of water. Water covers the 4 main engines so plans are ongoing for temporary patch and dewatering.

Scotch Boilers
Are there many Scotch Marine propulsion boilers left around? I agree with your recommendations however, one would think new licensees and upgraders as well would be grilled on more pertinent subject matter. Good luck with your exams! Glad I am on my final renewal of my ticket.

Density of Salt Water
1.025 One however, wouldhave to be in dire straights to operate a boiler on salt water. Looks like the US isn't the only place where the inspectors don't have both oars in the water. Good luck on your exams.
