Re: Westfalia GEA OSE-10 Hfo purifier
Hello abhigaurav. I'm not sure how the overheating of the motor and operational problem with WMS is linked. Is this the first alarm, the motor tripping? How often does it occur? 'The second alarm comes after 60 minutes' the 'WMS OPEN TO OFTEN' What is the address or tag number of this alarm? The tim...

Re: under voltage and over current trip
Hello raiphol. I'm not a leccy. Is the kW load sharing ok? What are the power factors for the gens and is number 1 low? Frequency ok? Possible issue with the excitation and voltage regulation. It doesn't seem like an external issue e.g. one of the cranes

Re: Daihatsu 5dk20 troubleshooting
Hello pavloandriyanov. What grade of fuel are you using and at what temperature? Were the valves replaced with OEM spares and were they new or reconditioned? It seems that the DK20 doesn't have a dedicated nozzle cooling system but is cooled with water from the JCW and I can't see how it gets from t...

Re: Davits removal
Ciao, Commerciale. A useful reference for yard work is 'A Guide to Ship Repair Estimates in Man-Hours' by Don Butler, unfortunately there is nothing specific re. lifeboat davits. Presuming a dockside crane is available, the boat is away and the falls are off the sheaves and back on the drum then it ...

Re: ER Vent fan placement
Hello Philip, you didn't say what size of vessel but I think she is small? I would follow the original design which was probably one supply fan and one exhaust. The fans are sized to the space, but more importantly the size of the engine, and how much air it sucks up (you can make a simple manometer...

Re: Type of pump - gear or screw?
Hello ArturZ. My experience of positive displacement pumps with three elements usually have the driving screw in the centre with two scrolls on either side. In the photo, the position of the drive off centre and the depth suggests that you are right; it is an external gear pump. The part of the cast...

Re: Westfalia Purifier OSD 18 Issue
Hello dinmotoroperator, did you figure it out? Interesting that you swapped the complete bowl and all was good as it rules out a lot of things. It suggests it's something to do with the closing chamber bottom and/or the annular piston. It sounds like you did a proper job fitting the polyamide seals ...

Re: Alfa Laval S846 HFO Separator problem
Hello Namit. Is the back pressure fluctuating all the time between discharges? Is the time between discharge 60 minutes? It is the clean oil outlet paring disc that discharges the clean oil and the back pressure is due to the resistance. Is the discharge valve full open or are you gagging the valve ...

Re: Alfa Laval S846 HFO Separator problem
Hello Namit. Does it run OK on separation for the hour? Any noise from the motor? Is the bowl closing properly? Check SV16 again, check operating system (water) for leaking and check nozzle clear. What happens when the alarm comes, does the separator keep running or shut down? Does the alarm coincid...

Re: Main air compressor after overhaul
If it has started since the overhaul are you sure that it is not cooling water? All genuine Tanabe spares used, including gaskets and O rings? Re-check torque of head bolts, cooler covers. Is the 1st stage cooler leaking? Any air bubbles in the cooling water sight glass? If it is condensate is the c...

Re: Main air compressor after overhaul
Unlikely to be from the bearings, certainly hope not; rings/liner a possibility. Was the oil changed 50-100 hours after the o/h? Is it the correct grade of oil as specified? Is the black paste attracted to a magnet?

Re: Alfa Laval S846 HFO Separator problem
Hello Polforyou, from what I can see, the alarm (A83?) is the result of a test failure of the water sensor, MT60. The book says to check the water supply and SV10 (conditioning water valve not operating water). The water fills the bowl until it is detected at the outlet by MT60. The sensor is either...

Re: Main air compressor after overhaul
Hello, neck7281.Could the dirt be from the overhaul i.e. not cleaning out the oil system? How many hours since the o/h? Is there any water in the sump? Microbial contamination is more like a jelly than a paste. I would clean out the sump and change the oil but keep a sample to send with your other L...

Re: Injector body lapping
Hello Moley. My short answer to the question 'What would say would be the correct procedure for lapping in the injector body seat?' is 'none'. The super is right. This is old school stuff and I have used a and b but neither are acceptable. Service letters from Wartsila and MAN advise against it. Why...

Re: Ball & Kirch Automatic Filter Type: 6.64.1
Go on, I'll give it a go but there will be straw grasping. Hello Md. Jarihul Islam, I've worked on a few B&K's but don't remember seeing this issue. Were all four bolts the same i.e. did they all have the same amount of slack? Was there any sign of fretting between the two parts of the central s...
