Luke Evan Gallant

Post by JK »

Usually I post the obituaries of older individuals who have lived though the war, the merchant marine or navy, that I happen to see when I check the paper every day. How devastating for his family and friends:
June 8, 1995 - October 2, 2020. Luke Evan Gallant, 25, Tantallon, passed away in a tragic accident on October 2, 2020. Luke was taken from us too early doing something he loved with his friends in Cape Breton, where he attended the Canadian Coast Guard College. He is survived by his parents, Blair Gallant and Carol Ann Bezanson-Gallant, Tantallon; brother, Ryan Gallant, Halifax; sister, Lindsay Gallant, Halifax; half-sisters, Natasha (Sheldon) Kelly, Cochrane, Alta.; Adina (Mark) Candow, Elmsdale; grandparents, Ambrose and Marie Gallant, Lakeside. Predeceased by grandparents, Ernest and Shirley Bezanson, Head of St. Margaret's Bay. Luke attended Crossroads Academy, Five Bridges Junior High, and graduated from Sir John A MacDonald High School. He attended Dalhousie University for one year in the Engineering Program. Luke was excited to join the Canadian Coast Guard and be accepted in their Engineering Program. He was in his 4th year of the Engineering Program and was graduating from the Canadian Coast Guard College in spring 2021 as an Marine Engineer with a Marine Science Degree from Cape Breton University. Luke enjoyed many things with his family. He sailed every summer in St. Margaret's Bay, Halifax and the South Shore. Luke skied and snowboarded winters at many mountains including SugarLoaf, Mt. Ste. Anne, and the Maritimes. Luke was a member of Scouts Canada and played basketball with SLAM. He was a member of SMSC and completed the Junior Sailing Program. He worked as a SMSC Keel Boat Race Officer for several years. One summer, Luke had the opportunity to be crew on the Bluenose II and sailed the Maritimes on our ambassador. Luke had a smile for everyone. He was the most caring, compassionate soul with his loving and gentle ways. Luke left us so many wonderful memories to keep his memory alive. May he have eternal life.... A Celebration of Luke's Life will be held on Saturday, October 10th from 1-4 p.m. in St. Margaret's Sailing Club, 5 Foxberry Hill, Glen Haven, NS B3Z 2W2. COVID restrictions apply. Online condolences can be made to www.rawalker.ca
