About the Role

Reporting to the Marine Manager, the Marine Supervisor will provide technical marine consultancy to LNG Canada with specific emphasis on port and terminal facilities development; terminal operations readiness and LNG cargo transfer management.

Supports and sustains robust implementation of, and adherence to LNG Canada Maritime Risk Management regime, business continuity assurance, top quartile marine performance, marine contracts management, excellent customer service and stakeholder relationships.

You will use your expertise to:

During EXECUTE phase of the project (including construction, commissioning, start up and ramp up):

Assist in developing plans and execute Marine Operations Readiness tasks assigned.
Assist in developing marine operations procedures, ship/shore compatibility analysis, mooring, berthing/unberthing, towage including escort towage procedures.
Assist in developing Port information Book, Berth Fit report, GMAS and Positive vetting procedures.
Assist in Preparation and submit Marine operations plans to regulatory bodies Transport Canada, Pacific Pilotage Authority, BCCP for approval of Marine facilities for operations.
Assist in preparation, coordinate, and submit Marine Security Plan to Transport Canada for MARSEC Certification of LNG Canada Marine Facilities. Coordinate with Security SME to develop Ship/Shore security interface protocol.
Coordinate in developing Full mission simulation study scope with BC Coast Pilots for the Triple Island Pilot Station to Kitimat identifying areas where Escort tug will be tethered and establishing transit speed and weather limits.
Operationalize CNLAA requirements for vessel vetting, scheduling, cargo documentation, independent surveyor, Energy Component tool validation and wargaming to optimize production and vessel loading schedule.
Actively support management of Marine Services Agreement for Construction of 6 tugboats: on time mobilization to Kitimat, tug staff recruitment, training, operations procedures.
Actively support management of the Tug berthing facility construction and operationalization.
Assist in development of Marine Operations HEMP/HSSE Case.
Provide Marine Expertise in TQ, TD raised by EPC contractor for LNG Jetty, LNG loading and marine facilities equipment.
Coordinate with finance, C&P, and Plant operations to procure equipment and services for Marine Terminal Operations.
Coordinate with Plant maintenance team to upload marine equipment maintenance plans & As built drawings in SAP for efficient workflow management.
Prepare Marine budget for Marine Terminal Operation setting up Port Charges to keep Marine operation cost neutral.


During OPERATE phase:

Implement Maritime Assurance at LNG Canada Marine Terminal ensuring all aspects of Maritime Standards, Spill Preparedness and Response Manual, Transport Manual Maritime Safety, Canada Shipping Act are implemented and applied.
Assist in management of Kitimat Private Port Operations activities, waterfront risk management, marine traffic coordination, Navigation safety at LNG Canada marine terminal and the LNG Carrier transit route from Triple Island to Kitimat.
To lead and participate in the work and tasks performed by a team of Operating Technicians & mooring crew. Co-ordinate the activities of Maintenance and Marine Service Contractors, to ensure the safe effective and efficient operation of the LNG Canada Marine Terminal and ensure marine loading facilities availabilities.
To provide a 24-hour maritime Operational and Emergency response as part of the Marine team Rota.
Ensure positive vetting and GMAS Clearances for all nominated LNG Carriers.
Safely executes on behalf of LNG Canada all necessary procedures associated with the safe inward passage, berthing, loading and departure of ships. These include, but are not limited to, communication with ships, Pilotage authority, BCCP, mooring contractor, agents, Towage contractor, Weather forecasting service, participation in the final berthing decision, supervision of mooring, implementation and approval of Ship/Shore safety checks, agreement of the loading plan, execution of safety audit to LNGC / Shell Trading standards.
Perform the role of Deputy Port Facility Security Officer. Ensuring International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS) requirements with respect to ship/Terminal communication and procedures are met.
Manage marine interface on board the vessels, conduct Ship/shore safety inspection, ensure MARSEC and Ballast water management requirements are met with auditable records.
Ensure all cargo documentations for export of LNG Cargoes is complete and meets the Canadian and JV equity partners requirements.
Ensure all ship/shore interface operations are conducted in accordance with industry guidance ISGOTT/SIGTTO, FNGL HSE requirements and terminal regulations and that the cargo transfer plan with supporting documentation is in place throughout.
Assist in management of marine towage contract as per the MSA.
Manage mooring and other marine contracts.
Prepare for SMBRs and conduct internal Marine assurance activities.

Manage excellent relationship with Marine Regulatory bodies, customers and local

To be successful, you will have:

Minimum of Class 1 (Deck) Certificate of Competency with Oil and/or Gas endorsement.
2 years Senior Officer experience on LNG carriers and/or Oil Tanker.
2 years’ work experience as Marine Supervisor/Superintendent at an LNG Loading facility or experience as Marine Technical Advisor for marine Terminals.
Familiar with LNG Ship/shore compatibility processes and mooring is, analysis of LNG carriers in line with OCIMF, SIGTTO
2 years’ experience of Contract management in managing marine contracts, towage, mooring, diving, pilotage, offshore maintenance etc.
Extensive knowledge and experience of marine activities, including port and Marine terminal operations, Port Authority & Canadian Marine Emergency response system.
High technical and management skills in managing the LNG Loading operations ship/shore interface and Marine Facilities readiness.
Excellent inter-personal skills to network effectively across internal and external business interfaces and with staff of different disciplines and seniority.
Ability to resolve and provide clear, fit for purpose solutions in line with Group and Industry guidelines and practices.
Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills that inspire and energize people and create a clear sense of direction and priorities.
A team player with excellent trouble shooting skill & having Enterprise first mindset.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and SAP
Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision
Strong presentation and facilitation skills

Will work a 50hr week (10hr/day) during Commissioning and Start-up

May be called at times, outside regular hours (this responsibility would be shared within the team)
This role is based in Kitimat, expectations is for you to reside in the Kitimat/Terrace region.
Willing to work in challenging weather such as snow, rain, wind, heat as required
This role will include building relationships with external stakeholders (Transport Canada, Pacific Pilotage Authority, Canadian Coast Guards, BC Coast Pilots, First Nations, Canadian Border Agency)
Visible Field presence as demonstrated through core work activities
Extra hours, afterhours coverage and/or shiftwork may be required particularly during the LNG Carriers loading operations.
