BCIT’s School of Transportation is seeking a regular, full-time Faculty, Marine Engineering to teach High Voltage Electrical Technology, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Automation and Control, Applied Engineering Science Courses, Engineering Knowledge, and workshop courses. The ideal candidate will be able to bring industry experience into the classroom, develop course and program curriculum, deal with relevant operational and educational issues, and cultivate positive relationships with students.


Duties & Responsibilities:

Classroom instruction to cadets, entry-level, upgrader, PTS or Industry Services students;
Shop and laboratory instruction and supervision;
Instructional counseling, evaluation and preparation;
Administrative responsibilities, including assignments, examination marking, and student evaluation;
Curriculum development, maintenance and program enhancement;
Administrative processes required to ensure appropriate resources are in place to deliver training;
Other duties directly related to the instruction of trades and vocational programs;
Input into development of modifications to workshop and instructional areas.
Preparing and presenting online teaching, classroom lectures, classroom management; practical demonstrations, and working collectively/collaboratively with the Marine Engineering Department Head.
Maintaining a commitment to the campus’ quality management system per ISO 9001:2015.
Student supervision on industry field trips.

Qualifications
Qualifications:

Valid First or Second-Class STCW Motor or Steam Combined or Electro-Technical Officer Certificate of Competency. Minimum five years seagoing engineer experience/shore-based position while in possession of a valid STCW First or Second-Class Motor or Steam Combined or Electro-Technical Officer Certificate of Competency, or
Degree or Diploma in either Electrical, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Control & Automation or Mechanical Engineering, or Naval Architecture with relevant experience.
Solid communication skills (excellent command of the English language, both written and oral).
Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
Demonstrated computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software.
Prior teaching experience and mentoring trainees are assets.

Salary Range
$68,375 to $101,563 per annum.

Additional Salary Information
Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment.
