Marine Chief Engineer
St. John's, NL
$16–$40 an hour - Full-time, Part-time, Permanent
Essential Functions
Must ensure that the engine room is clean, and suitable for inspection by coastguard authorities, ABS, and other higher authorities
Determine the volume of oil, fuel, and lube required for each voyage and ensure that substantial quantities of each is on board
Delivers general daily operation of the engine room to their primary assistants
Works closely with the Captain to ensure that the physical aspect of the vessel is completely under control
Must be able to oversee the maintenance of vessel propulsion, service and domestic systems
Perform daily vessel plant operation, preventative maintenance, watch-standing and record-keeping, fuel transfer, and bilge/ballast operations
Responsible for surveying, troubleshooting and correction of system failures, and vessel engineering compliance with regulatory requirements
Must be able to work within a small team to ensure that all maintenance is completed efficiently and in depth
Expected proficiency in the mechanical and electrical operation of modern marine diesel engines, generator sets, etc
If the voyage requires, the Chief Engineer is also responsible for the proper training and watch-keeping of his or her licensed and un-licensed Assistant Engineer(s)

Physical Demands
Travel time is required for in-harbor, offshore, and other
Close living quarters aboard the vessel alongside and underway for long periods of time
This job operates both in a professional office environment when needed and primarily on vessels

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand or walk, sit, reach, bend and move about the facility
Moderate to high physical effort required
All STCW ’95 Endorsed Certificates and valid MED & Medicals.
FRC and BST training / certificates recommended.
